Keeping a Journal

My boyfriend bought me a leather journal for my birthday. It sat in my drawer for a month, until last night. I decided to start writing, but couldn't think what to say. So, I found a few journal prompts online. The one I picked was "Imagine you saw yourself walk into a room..." Does anyone here keep a journal? Do you keep it like a "Dear Diary.." format or do you use prompts for creative writing?

I used to write journals when I was younger, I like writing down my feelings, my thoughts and what happened to me on that day. It's always a nice feeling to read back what you've written, sometimes I found it really funny why I had that thoughts when I was younger. Well, all of us keep growing up. Ever since I started blogging, I always write posts in my blogs, and I seldom write a journal or diary anymore. Everything seems to go online....

does that change what you write, though? Are you really as open and personal on the internet as you can be in a journal?

I used to jot down regularly all my thoughts and emotions, but lately I only write in my journal when I am into strong emotions.

I used to keep a journal when I was younger, but my family kept finding it and reading it out loud so I stopped keeping one.

Wow, that sounds awful! Your family should be a little more respectful of your privacy.

I keep a writing journal in which I write ideas that come to mind that I could use in a story or poem. I sometimes write descriptions of people I see that I think would make an interesting character in a book. I also write in it any quotes made by famous writers that will inspire me to write and any strange names I come across that I think will make a good name for a character. It's really just a journal of snippets that I may be able to use in my writing.
