Yeah it can be. It is possible to be sucessful but it is a lot of work and you have to put up with a lot of rejection.

I sell for 3 different companies Tupperware, Diamond Creek Candles and Mary Kay. I would say it is worth it, I just quit my full time job to sell all three full time.
