Hi stardust
Good day, my friend... Cleaning the pre-fetch folder is not necessary. Windows manages it automatically. To speed up your slow pc.. defragment your hard drive...
Go to START, then ALL PROGRAMS, then SYSTEM TOOLS, and choose DEFRAGMENT. This will speed up your pc when accessing files and starting programs..
And also remember to clean up non essential programs on startup.. This will speed up when startup too... Happy myLotting.
Have a Great Day!!

Defragmenting your harddrive is essential, but you must make sure that all the programs running in your computer memory is legit and wanted.
These days, browsing internet is fund but also dangerous. Anytime you computer may being attacks and sometime some website will install a program all spyware or malware which will slow down you computer a big time.
What you need to do beside do defrag:
1. Make sure that you computer protected by having an anti virus, spyware running.
if you do not have any anti virus, try avast free edition. You may say that Avast is a complete protection for you computer, it have an online scan for cirus, spyware, malware event for other security thread.
2. Though you have an anti virus/spyware installed, you could never be sure that your computer really safe. You should periodicly scan and cleant your computer from spyware using other application, in this case I recommend Adaware personal edition from lavasoft.
Defrag you harddrive could speed-up your computer, but in this internet era defrag is just not enought since most of the computer slowness cause by virus, spyware and other malware.
