There are several reasons why a marriage fails or is failing or WILL fail and the biggest one is lack of communication. Finances is another, so is faithfulness to one's spouse, respect, abuse... all of them at one point or another can be linked to a breakdown in communication at one point or another. Sometimes there will be financial trouble and the other half of the marriage duo won't know how bad it is because there was no honesty about the mess their financial situation was really in. Or perhaps an overspending that a husband/wife was making wasn't helping the situation...
Betrayal is another form of lack of communication. Some excuses (there is no justification in my opinion) sometimes simply put would be "you weren't around enough", or "you didn't make me happy", or some other excuse relating to some form of emotional or physical neglect. How is your other half supposed to know how you feel if you don't say something? As much as we'd like to believe our wife/husband can read our minds guess what.... THEY CAN'T...
See where im going? All boils down to a break down in communication at some point or another.

communication is an issue with me... but no thank God betrayal and that sort of thing is not. we simply don't communicate as much as we need to. it is a work in progress. So his not listening in your case is a hurdle you deal with... seems most marriages have that issue doesn't make it any less of a pain though.
