I have a 3-year old, 85 lb black Lab. We put her in the kennel a week ago and she came back with Kennel cough. The vet prescribed hydrocodone (which is like Vicoden) for her. She took her last pill yesterday, but I don't see much improvement. Do you have any suggestions on home remedies?

I worked in a pet store yrs ago and kennel cough was a huge problem. There are a few viruses and bacterias that are categorized as kennel cough. Basically it's a respiratory infection. If the cause is viral there isn't a whole lot you can do except let the virus run it's course and treat the symptoms with cough suppressants which it sounds like what your vet is doing. Although I'm a bit surprised the vet didn't prescribe antibiotics to prevent any secondary infection. Some do,some don't.
It can take up to 20 days before it's done running it's course. Best thing you can do is keep her as healthy as possible, vitamins, keep her toys clean, keep her outside play area as clean as possible. She still needs exercise but don't let her over exert herself. Keeping her away from other animals is an absolute must. The virus is very contagious and you don't want any other dogs giving her any other bug or visa versa. She's in a weakened condition and will be vulnerable to any other viruses or bacteria around. Keep a very close eye on her because kennel cough can turn into pneumonia VERY quickly, I can't stress enough just how quickly.
I don't mean to sound so drastic but kennel cough can be very serious. As long as she doesn't come down with a secondary infection she should be just fine in another week or so. I wish you and your dog the best of luck.

Please listen to craftcatcher, this is a very serious problem. I would probably ask the Vet. for more meds. just to be safe. Definately keep your dog away from other dogs. If you have other pets keep an eye on them. I wish you and your dog well!!!!
