My older dog used to bark when looking at the mirror when she was a puppy...
I guess she is smart now and recognize the difference....
Or maybe she doesn't care about mirror images.
My cat used to attack mirror for a while, disappointed that mirror is not fighting back...
My younger dog cares about food only, mirror is not barking and not taking food away...
There are at least 3 mirrors at my home they can look at everyday....no reaction so far...but, I never ask them what they think (!!!)....

Heheh animals are so cute :)
I think people would react the same. Imagine an adult seeing the mirror for the first time, Im sure they'd be fighting it lol.
Its all what learnt behaviour, the same as dogs, puppies dont know so they bark, old dogs have learned that its not a danger, but did they also learn that thats them?

When we first moved into our house our dog flipped out in the middle of the night because he saw himself in the closet mirror. It scared the heck out of me, but it was really quite funny since he actually thought it was another dog. Finally he calmed down and realized he was looking at himself. It was a really cute moment.

I know what most dog (male) would say: Ciao Bella!
Now seriously this is a good question actually. Do animals know its them who they see?
For example dogs mainly rely on their smell and they cant smell a mirror. Im sure that would confuse them a lot. I doubt they understand its them what they are seeing.
