Question about DTV Transition this February

The days are passing quickly and before you know it some of us will need to hook up a converter box to our analog type T.V.'s. Well, I am one of the few people who don't have Satelite or Cable TV so this definately applies to my household. I Went to the DTV website and ordered the Converter box Coupons, but I also recently purchased a new "Digital" DVD/VHS Recorder/Player. I was told that since this Device is "Digital" it is the same as having a converter box. I have so far relied on this, but when I did some reading on the DTV site, I didn't see anything mentioned about this. Does anyone know if this is true? I just don't want any surprises when this special day rolls around! Thanks for your help on this!
