Clearances?

I was told today that I should really shop clearances for gifts. I was wondering if that was really something that people did and were successful at or whether that was one of those things you hear about but can't ever actually do. When your kid wants Kirby Super Star Ultra for the DS, can you really show up with a clearance DS game and get away with it? I suppose if no one has actually asked for anything in particular that would be helpful, but I truly don't understand how anyone could do this for all of the their...say, Christmas shopping. For those of you who are savvy shoppers, let me in on the secret. You should also know, I hate using coupons, I don't like to drive around, and I get frustrated searching around the internet too much.

I shop clearance all the time! Gifts, myself, my son or my husband... cleanance is just a price break, not a statment of love!
If I find something that i think someone will like, whether it's clearance, on sale, full price or otherwise, I buy it. I get gift receipts and don't thing anything of it.
The point, I guess, is if you see something that you think someone will like/want/appreciate, buy it. Don't worry about the stigma of full/half price, clearance or whatever. The point of giving is the thought, not the price.
People who judge you for the price you paid for a gift you thought they would enjoy do not deserve the gift.
If you truly live in that rough of a world, try stating simply, "If it's the wrong size/color/type, I will return/exchange it for you." Then you can avoid the judegement of those who you've so lovingly sought to please.
