What Do You Do If You Can't Sleep?

I hate not being able to get to sleep, especially if I know that I have a very busy day the next day. It is even worse when you are physiaccly tired but your brain is still wide awake. When I can't sleep I usually try to stay away from drugs. Instead I watch TV, read a book, or listen to music. If I am really desperate I might do some exercise like sit ups or lifting weights. What do you do?

I am a night owl. I don't need too much sleep . And I will go without sleep for a good movie. So I don't find myself not being able to sleep. what I would suggest is watching a movie. I live by this saying " Tossing turning, counting sheep. watch a movie, who needs sleep."

My answer would be: don`t sleep. Do anything You wish or can do. Listen to music (use earphones, so it wont disturb other people who are trying to get some sleep!!), read a book or start an interesting conversation on the web. As 2-3 hours will pass, You will finally feel like getting some sleep. It works on me, should work on you as well. :) Hi five!

It's usually the anxiety regarding the next day, that causes the sleeplessness. I find it hard to sleep, if I have a presentation or an important meeting the following day. So instead of forcing myself to sleep, or worrying about not being able to sleep, I would just relax like you - watch TV, read a book. Once I am relaxed, I would slowly drift off to sleep!

My meds usually knock me out but when I cant sleep read. Don't exercise it will up your vitals then you wont be sleeping even longer. Try reading the most educational, hardest to understand book you can find. Try Frued for example, Its quite hard to understand puts me right to sleep. If you have that much trouble try asking a doctor for sleep aids, or just use bennadril as needed for short term sleep aid.

Chanting or saying a 'mantra' is great. It can be of the religious sort, or anything which gives you peace of mind. The repitition should help to put you to sleep. Good luck!

I do the same thing i hate taking meds. Also if i take a med to make me go to sleep it makes me feel horrible the next day. If i dont go to sleep in about 30 minutes i always get up & do something constructive. Sleep tight.
