beer belly.. how to lose it?

Im actually not fat, I weight almost 100 lbs but I have issue with my belly. Due to drinking and work that usually involves sitting hours in the office, my body developed beer belly. And I want to lose it. People say that doing some crunches and hula hoops will actually helps but then I read an article that it is shows the slowest result. They said that the best is a cardio exercise. My problem is what is this cardio thing? any samples? How will I really lose it?
