I Must Have ... Under The Tree!

When you were a child (or even now), was/is there one gift you look(ed) forward to receiving each Christmas?
Why was/is this gift so important to you?
How disappointed are/were you, if you didn't receive it?
Who did you expect this gift to come from?
Each year, when I was growing up, after all of the gifts had been opened, there were always two fairly large boxes left under the tree. My sister and I awaited these with great anticipation.
Hidden in each beautifully wrapped package, was a lovely doll for each of us. They were the old fashioned kind (of course), with the gorgeous hair and clothing. The eyes opened and closed, depending on whether the doll was upright or lying down.
We both loved to 'play dolls,' and were always eager to add these to our collection.
We received them either from Santa, or our mom, as it varied from year to year. Somehow my mom managed to provide these for us each Christmas. Amazing!

Hi gabs,
Thanks for sharing here, as always. I've been wondering how you're doing, as I haven't seen you around as much lately. Books are wonderful gifts to receive. They were often a part of what I got as well. I too loved series of books.
Hugs

Stuffed animal of some sort. For the longest time my parents always got me a stuffed animal for every holiday even when i was grown i still got them. I dont get them now as they instead get the grandkids something and im ok with that. Sometimes i miss the stuffed animal but i know im too old for them and well they just go to my kids anyways lol.

Hi minnie,
I really appreciate your stopping by here. Not only is it great to see you, but my topic would've been really 'lonely' without you.
I don't think anyone is ever too old for stuffed animals. I used to receive them too, back in my single years. Of course once my daughter arrived, they naturally all went to her. I got to enjoy them, by watching her excitement over them, if that makes sense. Your parents are wonderful grandparents. It's nice to be able to share in the 'grandparent experience' in your family, via myLot's famous grandpa.
Take care.

You seemed to have been luckier in getting special presents or things you really wanted...LOL. My grandmother and mother never seemed to get anything I really wanted and the one thing I really wanted most of all as a kid was a bicycle...never got one...sniffle,..sniffle.

My first comment didn't go through, so here I go again.
My mother always managed to 'make Christmas' for us each year. Looking back, I'm not sure how she did this, because we grew up poor. We didn't get a lot of extras throughout the year, so Christmas was special. In addition to our dolls, we always got practical things too like, PJ's, mittens, hats, scarves, etc.
I'm sorry to hear about your never receiving a bicycle. Maybe it's not too late to get yourself one? What type of gifts did you receive at Christmas?
Thanks so much for sharing here. Take care.

Thanks for coming back here, pye. It does sound like you received some great gifts, albeit not your bike. You're right about the rental thing. Too bad your mom just didn't buy you the bike. The Lionel train sounds really neat. Coming from a 'railroad family,' I loved train sets too. My brother had one that we were all able to play with. I also loved books, and reading. I used to look forward to getting some of those Trixie Belden mysteries, some Christmases.
Hugs

Well actually I would get a lot of dolls (especially Barbie). One of the best presents though that I did get was a Lionel train set...gosh, I wore out the motor on that since I played with it so much. To be honest, instead of dolls I would have preferred books...even as a kid I was an avid reader, but since my mother hated to read she never thought I'd like a book for Christmas...
If you want to hear something really weird though. This girl that lived down the block quite literally got a NEW bike every year..how envious I was. Anyway, one time she allowed me to take a ride on it...just at that moment I was whizzing by, my mother looked out the window and I must have nearly given her a heart attack..then seeing how much I enjoyed riding a bike, she would take me to this park area where one could rent bicycles for the day...so she would rent one out for her and me...It took me years to realize..DUH??? For the money she was spending renting those bikes she could have gotten me 50 bikes....just one of those mysteries of my mother. Years later I even asked her, how come she never bought me a bike and she would just shrug..what can I say, my mother was a real oddball

You where such a lucky girl grown up. My twin and I where not so lucky when it came to gifts birthday or Christmas. We got crap if we got anything. We where told it is our fault we are twins so we had to share the money they spend on us. So they spent the same amount on our older sister but since she was a single birth she got the good gift and we got sh&it. Most of the time we really did not get anything because by the time they bought what our older sister wanted/needed they where out of money. The worst part was Christmas morning we had to get up and watch her open up her gifts. Oh well it is water under the bridge

I am heartsick over this teapotmom, as I've mentioned in another of my topics, that you responded to. I don't understand how your parents could be so cruel. No child deserves this type of 'abuse' from their own parents. I know you're a mom, and am wondering how many kids of your own you have? I believe 'they' are grown now. I'm sure you've more than made up for the horrible treatment you received, by being loving and caring with your own kids. Are you a grandma too? Sorry, I can't remember this. Thanks so much for sharing here. Love and Big Hugs to you.

You are so welcome. Thanks so much for coming 'back here.' I'm thrilled to hear that you have such a wonderful, loving family. It's great too, that you and your hubby have had so many years together. I'm looking forward to hearing all about your first grandchild. I wish you and yours the best Christmas ever, and much happiness in the New Year. Take care, my friend. Hugs.

MY hubby and I have two of the most wonderful children we have a daughter who is 30 and she lives an hour away and a son who is 27. The daughter is married to a great guy and his family has accepted us and we spend almost all holidays together as one big extended family.
Our son is expecting his first child in February. Our first grand baby yayayaya. He and his girlfriend live four hours away and we are close. I talk to the girlfriend more than I do my son. They are coming on the December 23 and staying till the 30th.
When I need my children they are here johnny on the spot they are very protective of mom. I do love them very, much and feel very blessed to have them.
My hubby and I have been married for 31 years and are going strong. Some days he really pisses me off but what man won't?
I have tried to make things fair for the kids because of what my twin and I went though.
Thank for your kind words and have a merry christmas

I remember that I really wanted a doll that responds. I think I was looking for a very interactive doll that talks when spoken to. Of course there were no such dolls at the time. So on our class Christmas party when I was in nursery, my Mom gave a tip to 'Santa' saying that I wanted a doll with dialogues. I still have the doll up to now, you can feed it and the milk in the bottle would seem to disappear. It has curly blonde hair, big blue eyes and eyelids that open and closes. It cries when you spank it and when its 'hungry'. Battery operated of course.^_^
Think that was the only gift that I really longed for. Ive always wanted a bike since I learned how to ride one but up to now its still nonexistent.

Thank you for your wishes.^_^ Dad is asking me what I want for Christmas these days and I cant tell him anything. Cause I know if I say I want a bike, he'd say "You know you can use the other car anytime you like".. Thing is I dont know how to drive yet Pretty ironic.
You're welcome and Merry Christmas!^_^

I loved teddy bears too, chantalgiardina. The idea of having the name sewed on like that, is a great one. So you don't have any of these bears now for keepsakes? Thanks for responding. Take care.

Sorry Mom but I can't really relate to this....
Each Christmas was different...
I guess what I looked forward to was the get-togethers we had at each set of Grandparents with all the other family as I was an only child!
Each year my parents gave me a different big gift..One year a Ride on Duck, another a Tricycle, Another a brand new barbie doll (Not my Cousins used ones) Another year a special Ragedy Anne Doll, Another year an Easy Bake Oven, etc, These are just the ones I remember right now! Often after I opened my gifts I would gather them around me and Mom would take my picture in my special Christmas Dress of course!

Hi heavens,
No problem. You've related really well here. These are some great memories you've shared. I can relate too, about your being happy to have something new, instead of the used items. My sister and I got a lot of hand me down items, especially clothes. It was always thrilling to have something just our own. We had special Christmas dresses too, and would wear them the years we went to our aunt's, or our grandpa's. Sometimes we'd have our own family dinner at home. I do appreciate your sharing here.
Hugs.
