Friends
My son who is 9 yrs old (In the photo iam using along with my profile) has swallowed a 2 Rs coin 4 days ago..This is an hexagonal coin and the biggest coin currently under circulation in india. Doctors after examining the x-ray has given one week time for the coin to come down so that they can take it out through the bottom. They also opined that he is lucky enough as the coin has gone sliding inside instead of getting stuck in his windpipe. The coin has to travel more than half a mile before settling down into his bowel. They also advised against taking the coin out of mouth using endoscopic methods. Iam left out with no other option than to wait as per the doctors advice? Have u come across such situation? Any diet you know that could push down the coin faster? Pls let me know

Hi gaisri,
It is really a tensed situation. But you don't worry; give him enough bananas so that it will come out through bowel. I can understand your tension because last month I was also faced the same situation, my 7 year old son swallowed a kancha (small ball made by glass, children are playing with the same, I can't remember the name in English). We rushed to the hospital but doctors said there is nothing to worry and give him lot of bananas and it will come out of the next day, if not we will go for an x-ray and so and so. But the third day it has come out with the bowel.
Is he suffering pain or something, if not then no need to worry. But you have to check when he is going to toilet so that you can make sure the coin has gone out. So nothing to worry everything will be alright. All the best.

i do have a similar experience with my nephew. he was younger and he had swallowed a safety pin, comparatively much smaller than a 2-rupee coin.Naturaly, we were worried and took him to a doctor. The doctor told us not to worry, and advised me to feed him bananas. Fortunately, the boy loved bananas. We watched his stools as the doctor had advised and the next day or so, the pin came out.
Therefore, bananas may be useful in this instance also. If your doctor okays, you may try.
I wish your anxiety ends soon and make you happy!

This happens more than you know. I swallowed something small but don't know what to call it. i guess it went through because that was years ago. My cousin when she was five swallowed a penny. It lodged in her windpipe and my aunt did the homlich can't spell it. I guess it passed as well. As for making it pass faster try a flush but that still takes a few days.

Money is hard to come by these days and I understand why you are so anxious to get it back.

oh thats too bad. your son must be one naughty kid, just kidding. you dont worry. he will be alright. I think bananas are a good option. When my elder sister was a kid she had swallowed a cockroach just out of curiosity I know it is not quite the same but dont worry he will be fine.
