What happen to the true meaning of Christmas? People camp outside for hours and overnight just to get a sale. Does anyone stop to think of the standards, We are setting for our children. Some of us will max out credit cards to by expensive gifts, to make family members happy. When the bill arrives in january, here come stress and depression. The best gift we can give someone for christman is love and appreciation. Here is an example of love: baked goods, knitted hat and scarf, coupons for babysitting, a cooked meal or a movie ticket. Where is your creativity people? www.orientaltrading.com has a lot of great projects for gift.
Wii have to learn how to think before we buy?
My children found more pleasure in decorating the house and me sharing childhood stories, then worrying about popular toy. Now that I am a grandmother, my grandkids and my 13 year old will receive education items clothing. The adults children, my sister and her children, we are having a christmas clue scavenger hunt. All gift are under $10.
There's clues involved if don't guess the gift, you will have to pull a dare out the bag and perform that dare. Ex: When my sister has one too many of drinks, she thinks, she can sing. I brought her a microphone for Christmas. If she does not answer her clue correctly,
she will have to go ring a neighbor' door bell and sing a slow country version of ring bells with the bells as prop. I will be video taping this event, watch out youtube.
Come on people make Christmas....a FF day! Promote Family and Funny, stop letting the retail store pimp you.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

You're right! Don't let the retail stores pimp us. Actually, even before I have read this discussion, I have already decided to stay in for Black Friday. I mean, there is really no need for me to go out and buy something. Most of the things that I need, I already have. And for the things that I want, they could always wait when and if I am able to save for it. I don't want to buy it on credit and then suffer paying credit card debts for a year or so. If that is the case, whatever amount I save because of Black Friday sale, it just goes to the paying credit card interests.
So I am staying in and would probably write something for mylot. lol

I will go on a credit card shopping spree on Black Friday! But for me its no different than any other day that I choose to shop, be it a sale or not. And it wouldn't be such a bad idea if you went on one too, for those $10 or less gifts that you plan to buy. Our economy needs it!
Credit cards just happen to be the way that I choose to purchase, because its safer than cash and easier to track my spending. Not everybody that uses credit cards are being pimped by the retail market. The truth of the matter is that even if I tried I could not max out my credit cards. And for the record I am debt free. Whatever I purchase I pay the bill in full on or before the due date.
Just out of curiosity, those things that you say are gifts of love and appreciation, don't you have to buy that stuff too? I know in my neck of the woods, food, yarn and movie tickets cost money. Does it mean that you love more because you spend 10 dollars and I spend 100? I don't get why that makes your meaning of Christmas any different than mine.
I don't get a lot of gifts from my family and friends, as they think that I have everything and want for nothing, as my financial situation is better than theirs. Also I have requested that they not, as what they think is true. And their money would be better suited on something or someone else. But what I teach my child is that if you have and you want to give, then you do. You are not obligated to buy and give a gift because of the commercial holiday. He volunteers with me for the homeless and the hungry. I teach him that he is fortunate not to be in that situation. I teach him that though we are financially doing better than most that we come in contact with that we too can be victim of those circumstances. Is this any different than you teach yours?
