Try booting it to a command prompt. I have seen this before where the cooling fan was not working, and the cpu was over heating, thus causing it to reboot. there can be other causes, but since it is not getting to XP then I doubt it is a virus. boot up to a command prompt if you can and see if it stays running. if not it is probably a heat issue

overheating will cause the pc to reboot but not very much likely in this case. see, his pc is rebooting everytime windows starts, meaning theres a problem with windows thats why it's not starting up

this happens to me before alot of times. i still don't know how to prevent this from happening. but the solution really is to reformat your Windows, not your PC (someone said to reformat the pc). anyway, this is caused when you use your hard drive on another motherboard and its not the same specs. another is when you reboot your pc or it accidentally restart while windows is still loading (the black screen with windows logo). or a system file is accidentally erased. but i am still not convinced that a virus can cause this one. i haven't encountered that one yet. the best prevention for this is to have a backup. try acronis or norton ghost.

In addition to the suggestions above on why your PC keeps on restarting instead of entering Windows there are two other possibilities which you should look at. They are based on my personal experience in installing, reinstalling, and upgrading Windows on 'old' PCs.
1) Hard disk. If you are using an old hard disk this can create a problem. It may also be a contributory factor if you are using a brand new hard disk with an old motherboard.
2) RAM condition.

The first thing to try is to enter safe mode...if the problem persist even when you attempt to boot into safe mode, then the chances of a 3rd party software or hardware conflict is greatly reduced. If you cannot enter safe mode, there is a possibility that your power supply is overloaded or failing soon, or your processor may be overheating (check your Processor fan and lock). There is a very small possibility that your basic windows files are corrupted but it usually hang will booting up rather than restarting...

Well, I think according to me myself, it is because of viruses. Mine used to be, too. The best solution is reinstalling the PC.
