Okay this is what I asked a few people today dealing with a rental car after an accident I had. After a few conversations wqith various people from the rental agency, I was given 3 different estimates length I get it free etc. Thenj suddenly they ask for a cash deposit. Why this was not mentioned immediately is beyond me. So anyhow I asked the person, "DO I come off as an idiot? You've a car of mine valiued at $10,000 and I did not ask for a deposit." They had to laff at that and jnow I've worked out a deal qwhere the body chop sent a P.O. (purchase order) to cover the deposit. Now I've got to work out the time I get it free. My car will not get worked on till at least Monday. I've been told 5 days free. Well the shop is closed Thur through Sunday. And those days count. So even then I have to return the rental or pay starting the day they start working on my car. Been on and off the phone since 8 a.m. 'DO I COME OFF AS AN IDIOT?"

No, you probably don't. It's the rest of em that ARE idiots.
I swear society has really dropped its standards especially in Customer service and people who deal with the public. You have to fight to get the answers you need, drag every detail out yourself else you'll find out something important when it's too late, and deal with substandard attitudes. Bah!
People just don't CARE enough anymore. They don't care about the person they are "helping", it's just another customer to them.

I can tell you this from my dealings all day so far, I would recomend Abra Auto Body for repairs etc as they did offer to cover the deposit of a rental. But I will NEVER refer Enterprise Rental to anyone needing a rental car. That is all I've gotten from the day long calls etc since early this morning.

No, but I think that when they say 5 days free, that should be extended because of the holiday..That is unfortunate that this happened now, because everything is going to closed..

I totally agree..Have you tried asking for an extension because of the holiday? Or are they being completely unreasonable? It would be good business practice if they took in the fact that the shop will not be opened because of the holiday..

You are certainly not an idiot, GB - trouble is, all these things are tied up with so much red tape and paperwork it's almost impossible to get through it. I hope your car can be repaired quickly and efficiently so you can get your life back to normal!

The read tape is everywhere, regardless of the country you live in. The problem is that there are some people who lie, cheat and steal and it is the innocent people have to suffer as a result. At least your own car is being evaluated as to whether it is repairable, and if so hopefully that will happen real soon. If it cannot be repaired, then hope the insurance company comes through with the funds so you can find another car in a hurry.
From memory it is coming up to Thanksgiving weekend for you, which will probably cause a bit of a delay in things being resolved or any for much work to be done on the car if they are going to repair it.

Oh I got through a lot of their red tape today. Got the rental for 5 days free of all costs. No deposit etc. Now what to do after Sunday night as I'll have no vehicle for at least 7 days after Sunday. Not to worry as I don't stress about things till the day it happesn. SO until Sunday I am happy right now.

These places have a way of giving it to you, don't they! Hate you had the accident, but doubly sorry that you had to have it near a holiday! I think the rental place should be paid by your insurance, that is, if you have that kind of insurance to furnish you one while they fix your car. It's not your fault that the shop won't be open this weekend! AND, no, you aren't an idiot! If you were, you wouldn't even be concerned with all this.

Yeah bit their problem is that I give it back tenfold.
I've cursed a few out so far and may do so more.
Hopefully I hear something soon.
The deposit is taken care of right now.
Now I wait to see how long I get the rental car free.

HI Grandpa Bob
You are not an idiot.
Have you checked your insurance policy and you car warrenties to make sure you don't already have rental coverage? Sometimes they forget to tell you that you are covered. I have both. If the P.O. is for a set dollar amount I would go with Budget car rentals. We rented a car from them awhile back and it was $450 for 8 days with unlimited miles (which we needed since we went to Nebraska and back)
I take it that also means they did not total the car that sucks. Did you go to the Doc yet? You only have so many days to get checked out for the the insurance to cover that and any on going ailments which might stem from the accident

Being in Canada no doubt our laws are different, now for most things I have to say our laws suck bad and we are way behind times but with that said I have seen a lot of people milk the system here with auto crash that was not their fault. You had stated this whole ordealmwas not your fault, out here this is the way it would work. First they decided if your car was going to be fixed or wrote off. If it gets fixed then it goes to the body shop and you go home with a loaner vehicle of their choice all you pay is the gas you burn, the tank is full when you drive off the nlot and you must have it full upon return. If your car is not to be fixed then they look in their black book and THEY decide what it's worth. You may tghink it's worth 10,000.00 but they may say NO we're only giving you 7,500.00, which at that time you have the right to buy the vehicle back and fix it or do whatever or take the settlement. If you keep the car and fix it you need to have it inspected before insurance will ever insure the car again. I have seen people claim to have whip lash, not able to work, not able to walk and what happens is they put in a claim and the quilty drivers insurance pays the shot for medication, a housekeeper, treatments or whatever. The quilty driver's insurance pays.

Thanks, it's basically the same here. But rentals are usually not a standard frteebie for repairs being done. Some shops do it where as others don't. I was under the impression my insurance also had rental coverage for situations like this. But nope she screwed up. When I bought this car brand new and I said I wanted full cover all bells and whistles. She did not add the rental coverage. Oh well. Thanks again.

Thanks again.
I will only have the rental for as long as the free time is stated.
Not a day longer.
There will be no charges.
I am stubborn as hell in situations dealing with my cash.
Thanks again so much again also.

Because you said your insurance works basically the same as here then Please be very careful if you plan to get a loaner car because if you don't dot your i s and cross your t's it may come back as on your insurance regardless of the fact that you're innocent, I have seen this happen. I would not feel at all bad in getting a car till a decission is made on this mess, but please get it in writing that this will not affect your insurance premium.

It is a business afterall, and people do rent over the Holidays so I understand to a point. The main argument is the different days and rate I was quoted actually. Then to spring a deposit suddenly after talking to me maybe 5 times then tell me?

Funny thing here.....
We have the same insurance company.
So my agent sues her agent etc etc.
It goes nowhere.
So nope my insurance etc won't pay.
But if needed I can file a claim for lost cash etc due to this.
Which if I spend too much I will do.

That sounds like Enterprise. If so, ask to speak to the area manager. A lot of it depends on your insurance company's willingness to pay and/or the body shop's willingness to contribute, but area managers can do things branch managers can't. Used to work for them. Don't like how they work, but know who to contact. Good luck!!
BTW - how are you feeling today?

No, your not an idiot, but they like to make you think you are, thats why I don't like having to deal with the insurance company. One time I was in a accident and my car got banged up pretty bad, it wasn't my fault either, a girl ran a light and ran right into me, she was in a big truck, and I was in this little cavalier, and nothing happened to her truck not even a scratch, meanwhile, my car looked awful, water and antifreeze pouring out everywhere. The insurance co. said they would let me use a rental car for as long as it takes to fix my car, well I'm like okay. So when they bring the rental, I go to sign whatever I need to sign, and they had told me that it would be free, but when I was going to sign the papers, they asked me if I was using a credit card. I thought what, a credit card, apparently yeah, the rental car was free, but I had to buy the insurance to drive it, and they were charging me 14.00 a day for insurance, for as long as I needed it, well my car wouldn't be fixed for another week or so, so that meant I was going to have to pay 14.00 a day for at least 7 days. I thought no way, I can't afford that, so I didn't get the rental car, I just used a family members car for that week. See they think we are idiots, and they like making us feel like we are. But no, your not an idiot.

Oh wait a sec here, Noone can make me an idiot. I can do that all by myself.
One problem is a rear end collision like mine, the one doing the rear ending is usually at fault evidently for not paying attention. But the other driver was ticketed for her illegal lane change etc so this proves fault at her end so I should be covered fully for reepairs etc. Now my insurance I have is mainly for my car, but it also covers any car I may be driving in a situation like rental during repairs etc. I am lucky there. But only for a certain amount of days is the problem. After that I have to pay. I have no idea how much and don't need to know cuz I aint paying them morons a cent. I'll return it at the end of the free term.

You are having a really bad time Bob. I have never heard of paying up front on car insurance before either. They are the idiots. If all this is not bad enough for someone when their cars messed up and they could of been seriously injured then you get hit with a deposit. What the heck do they need that for. Your car needs fixing. OmG. This is awful. I feel sorry for you and now I am mad about you having to pay a deposit. Take care Bob. I hope your luck changes tomorrow.
