I am from ny, and I am not a die hard Knicks fan, but I do like to see them win. the thing that I've been sick of people talking about is where Lebron James is going to end up playing when his contract is up. Every one keeps saying that with the recent trade the Knicks just made, they are dumping their big salaries to make a run at Lebron. I have never heard of such interest in a player who's contract isn't even up for another 2 years! How stupid does all of this sound? Lebron James isn't a free agent until the year 2010. So why the hell would any team be making room on their roster for a player that they may not even sign 2 years from now. All the coverage this week has been all about Lebron coming to madison square garden and how the fans will be cheering and chanting his name to get him to come to the Knicks when he's a free agent. This is the most rediculus coverage of a sports story I have ever heard of. Why is there so much interest in a player who is under contract with his current team for another 2 years?

i'm a big knicks fan especially when they had camby, lj, latrell, and allan houston. basically, the knicks team that made it to the finals against the spurs.
this talk about lebron coming to ny is just that, talk. i know most teams are really preparing for the free agents that'll be available in 2010. it is a deep free agent pool and you really can't blame teams and the media for hyping up somethign that'll happen two years from now. even the acquisition of allen iverson by detroit has been tied up into lebron. all the teams that matter today in the nba are clearing salary cap to get a shot at signing lebron.
let's face it, lebron is bigger than basketball and the nba is one big marketing campaign. the wins, the championships, and the fans are important but so is filling up the seats and selling season passes. running an nba team isn't cheap and with lebron in your roster, you're sure to sell more seats and season passes as well rack up a couple more wins in the win-loss column. not to mention about getting the elusive championship.
let the media, teams, and fans have their fun about this and just enjoy the games. i'm sure with what you're hearing now, you'll be so used to it come 2010 and it really wouldn't matter if lebron moves to new york or not.
just my thoughts.
cheers!!!

I think it just got blown out of proportion because of the NY media. They keep on saying how interested LeBron is with leaving Cleveland, but I digress. The Cavaliers are starting to have a team around LeBron. Admirable move by the Knicks to clear out space in preparation for 2010, but you have to consider that anywhere LeBron goes, he's expected to make money anyway. He's after a winning core that he could bring to the championship. The Knicks don't have that supporting cast right now. He's smart enough to know that it'd be like starting over if he moves to New York unless some things change between now and 2010.
People tend to forget that we are still in 2008, and we need to appreciate what we have here and now. LeBron's a great player, he'd be racking up wins and stats like no one's business, so hopefully after this visit to Madison Square Garden, all this talk of LeBron to NY would swell down.

It has been blown way out of proportion. Maybe it's because the cavs and knicks play tonight. The thing that gets me is that I was watching espn, and at the bottom of the screen where they show you the schedule and news from every different sport, when the NBA news came around, it said "Lebron comes to madison square garden tonight". Is it really neccessary to highlight that. Why is this so important. Instead of it reading Knicks vs Cavs and them showing their win loss records like they usaully do, they had to make sure we all know that Lebron is playing at the garden. I know all the talk wil lsweel down, but I've been hearing it all week long. There is know way that any team can be preparing to make a move for a player who's still under contract for the next 2 years. I guess it's the sports reporters that I'm sick of. They are the ones with all their stupid speculations.

I am also from NY, and I have always been a Knicks fan even in bad times like this. In my opinion, the Knicks are doing the right thing in wanting to get Lebron James. He is the best player right now and we are sending a message to him by clearing cap space. I know Lebron loves it here in NY and he called MSG the Mecca of sports. He is also a Yankees fan so that might help. There have been a lot of talk about who else he would play with in 2010 if he signs with the Knicks. Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, and Amare Staudimire's contracts all expire in 2010 so we can get him his Pippen. I personally think Bosh would be the right choice.
