Why do some people tend to abuse friendship?

I have a lot of friends. I love and trust like they are really my brothers and sisters. But sometimes they tend to abuse me. I wonder why some friends are just really not meant to be as genuine as you thought they are.
Once I got a friend who I invited to live with me in my house with my kids. She was doing practicum and her administrator told her to sleep in the school where she was doing practicum. When everyone leaves school it would feel real empty and void so I told her to stay in the house for the mean time. She was a nice person but one day I lost my gold necklace. Nobody was in the house but me and my kids and her. I didn't know why some people tend to abuse friendship but some do.

It has helped me understand the differences/diversity in people.Yet I do still love and carea lot of my friends.

That's the same as when you call ya "friend" when you wanna check on them but they give you a sob story.
Or when they only use you as a ride or do do favors for you.
I guess that's life
