A software that detects hardware problems?

do u know any software program that detects hardware problem? coz when i troubleshoot pc what i do is the swapping thing. the problem is that sometimes i dont have source on where to get something to swap, specially if its and old one. thats why im asking you guys to help me with this one... Thanks!!!

lets just say the problem with RAM, the BIOS or the processor? I need a software that detects which has a problem without opening my system unit.
