I was just wondering if its O.K to listen to non-christian music while being a christian. Ive had many people say yes, that it is ok, but im just not sure. Sometimes I hear this songs, that are very good, the lyrics and everything is very nice. but since they are not from christian singers im not sure if I should listen to it.

Well, there are a lot of different types of music out there. Many of these are not songs we as Christians should not be subjecting ourselves too, and our kids too, but then I do have favorite Singers that are not really Christian per sey that I Love to listen too as well. I just feel you need to be aware of what type of music you are allowing yourself to listen too, and how it will edify your mind and thoughts for sure. I do own more Christian music than secular music out there, and know that this will help uplift my soul more especially when I am feeling down.

i think it's okay to listen to non christian music. in my opinion, all kinds of music can be appreciated, whether it's written by christians or not. the only thing i would avoid is listening to songs that convey messages or hate, rage, lust and what not. those kind of songs are better off not to listen to because it really promotes sin.
as for the common love songs you will probably hear over the radio, i think it's totally fine to listen to them since it is just a mere expression of a human expressing his love for another.
just imagine this, i am a christian, if i write a love song for my girlfriend, which has no reference to God or Jesus etc, does that make my song bad to listen to by other christians?

Well I think it depends on what kind of music your listening to, if its the negative type of music, that talks about killing, stealing, cheating, and drinking, and beating people up kind of music, I wouldn't listen to it. I'm a Christian, and I admit I will listen to some country music, and I like some Blues artists, it doesn't make me feel bad to listen to it. I mostly listen to Christian music anyway, there are a couple of Christian radio stations in my area, and my radio is always tuned into one of them all the time. I also sing and play guitar, and I only sing and play Christian music.

for me as Christians, we should be careful to the music that we listen to. I listen mostly to Christian music but i do sometimes listen to secular music too, but i'm very particular with the lyrics of the song... But if a non-Christian will listen to Christian songs, i think that would be a good testimony.

I'm not very sure also. But I feel that listening non-christian songs can add 'noise' to our life, and make us less sensitive to what God wants to tell us in our daily life.
But I'm not sure what is the boundary of music christian can / cannot listen to. Maybe there is a 'guideline' in the Bible. Anyone has any suggestion/opinion?

I've grown up in and around a christian church and family. I've never been told that i was only allowed to listen to christian music. Personally it all depends on what the lyrics are. My mom even listens to otehr genres

It depends on what you are listening to and what lyrics are being sung in the song. I listen to R and B. And I am a true Christian. I just don't let the music go to my head. There is also many gospel songs that sound just like R and B. Like Grits, Commission, The Winans. It just depends on how you react towards this type of music that makes the difference. If it is just used to listen to and not to implement in your life, then that is what matters the most.
