Has this ever happened to you? Either for Thanksgiving or Christmas. You were going to go over someone else's house for the dinner and entertainment and then on short notice it is ending up at your place.
My husband and I with our son were supposed to go somewhere else now yesterday we needed to go out and get the frozen turkey, stuffing, and we still have to get yams. It is a little unnerving to me but dinner is at our place tomorrow. What do you think about this?

We have never had this happen to us before but that sounds so frustrating for you. I would be upset if I had to all of a sudden cook up Thanksgiving dinner when I had not planned on doing it. To tell you the truth if I were in your circumstance I would have just opted to dine out for Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant and took the day off from cooking. I hope everything works out for you ok and that you have a great Thanksgiving!
Have a nice day and happy myLotting!!!

I get what you are saying and funny enough we are ending up not having to cook today for everybody. We were invited out again. We will cook up our turkey another day. It was all kind of last minute but that is okay. Take care, thanks for writing and have a great holiday!

I haven't had that happen but my goodness, what a madhouse your home must have been yesterday!
I hope you have a wonderful day. When we really sit down and count our blessings, not just say it, it takes a very long time!

It turned out that my house didn't turn into a mad place yesterday for Thanksgiving. We ended up going out to another house and had a great day. The dinner was great and hopefully next year we will be better prepared.
Thank you for responding.

Thanks for replying winterose. It is good to hear from you. Believe it or not the plans have changed again.
Now we are going out because we were invited by someone who wants us to be part of the family get together.
We agreed and we will have to cook off our turkey another day in our house. Take care and have a great holiday.

its kind of a rude thing to do unless something happened that made it unavoidable. it happened sometime when i was younger and the kids were all home

I did feel a little put off by the change in plans however now it turns out we are having the feast elsewhere instead of our place.
We were invited by somebody else to go to their house now! We are now going out again. Thanks for replying and have a great day.

Quite frankly I would just as soon take everyone out to a restaurant unfortunately I am not independently Wealthy. Thanksgiving is such a lot of work and some expense. A turkey takes a couple of days to defrost, but there are some that you can cook from frozen because they do not have the giblets in them. I have heard in a pinch that you can start cooking the frozen turkey and then after about an hour you take out the giblets.
Does anyone actually use the giblets, or does the dog always get them?
I think it a little unfair to be saddled with the obligation on such short notice. You could have said no.

Thanks for posting. However my husband actually had invited the friends over after in the initial change in plans. His heart was in the right place.
Turns out we wound up getting invited out again and we went out to another house for dinner. Take care.

All I have to say is ouch I cannot say that has happened to me but that would surely be a smack in the face if you were planning on not having to prepare a dinner and then all of a sudden you do on such short notice. I feel bad for you have a great turkey day though.

Thanks for responding. It turns out that my family was invited out once again and I didn't have to cook after all. I still had a great time and we didn't have people at our house.
I would rather be better prepared next time around!

This has been a year for plans changing for me. We thought that we would be in Oklahoma today and tomorrow. Hubby had requested today off. I had today off, even though I am working in three residential programs. I was working Friday. Well they gave my hubby Friday off. I was able to get Friday off, from both shifts that I have been working. Found out last night that although my son cannot go, or his wife, that my grandson wanted to go with us. Okay, got that okayed with everyone. Called to tell my son it was okay and it turns out my granddaughter wants to go too. I hope you do not stress too much, but just enjoy the day.

Funnily enough I don't think I will be stressing out too much today being it's Thanksgiving today. Now we have been invited elsewhere and we'll just have to cook off the twenty pound turkey we got on another day.
Thank you for replying and I do hope your day goes well.

My husband and I tend to spend Thanksgiving on our own because I have to work the day after usually and plans have been changed in the past. We found it easier just to stay home and not deal with traveling at that time of year. It can be a pain to deal with last minute changes especially when you have to go and buy everything.

I think this would upset me a little bit, because if I planned on going somewhere else, then that means my house didn't get cleaned, and I don't have all the groceries I need. I would ask them to help with the food, to bring a covered dish. Thats what we do, we don't put it all on one person. Like tomorrow, we are going to my sisters, but we are all bringing a dish or a few dishes, so she don't have to do everything, I think it makes it easier for the hostess.

You have said it all. That is true what you say about guests bringing something along. You know, I have thought of that myself and don't really want to ask the guests to bring anything but it would be nice if they did.
It is true that I have to fix the place up a little bit and I was kind of just wanting to relax this year privately with my son and husband anyway.
Sometimes I do feel like I am the hostess basically anywhere I go. I end up cleaning up and picking things up. It gets tiresome. Sometimes I feel that it is my lot in life to be cleaning lady. I didn't mean to start complaining but I get down sometimes and need to express myself.
You are very good for thinking of the hostess where you will be visiting. Making it easier on the person is a good idea. Thanks for responding.

Oh my this is a great reminder when I was about 11 years old my aunt was having Thanksgiving, and my other aunt invited our family to go. We drove about an hour and a half to get to the other aunts home. When we got there the aunt that was hosting was not expecting our family and said they did not have enough food. My poor parents were mortified and embarrassed. The aunt that was with us said that is rediculous we can stretch the food. Instead of my father letting his sisters fight he wished them a Happy Thanksgiving and loaded us all in the car. Myself and two of my sisters. He drove around looking for a place that was open but back them Restaurants where not open on Thanksgiving. We went home and mom cooked some steak with potatoes and veggies. I caught her crying as she was cooking I told her does it really matter we were all together, she said well we don't have a turkey and I just hugged her and said Mom but we have food isn't that something to be thankful for. That is a day that I will never ever forget. Since that Thanksgiving mom has always held the feast and always makes extra food in case someone drops by unannounced.

Thank you so much for your response. It is a beautiful story actually. Makes you really think of what you have to be thankful for. You were such a young girl when it happened but yet it stayed with you during your life.
I guess this post that I started gave you something to think about and it makes me count my blessings even more. Take care friend.

Yes we have had changes to christmas made in the past, so much that in the last few years I refuse to have nayone here on christmas day.
We were meant to be having people to christmas lunch at 2pm because that is the time they wanted to come and then the day before they phoned and said they wanted dinner at 12 midday as they wanted to go elsewhere as well on that day. My husband like a fool just said yes. And he then had to get up at 3am to put the turkey in the oven. I was so cross and said we are never having people on christmas day again!

What a story I have gotten from some people on this matter. I guess that happens sometimes in life. Now we are going out again. We do have a turkey but someone else really wants us to come over for dinner today being Thanksgiving now. Take care and thank you for responding.

I just read this discussion. I see that you bought all the stuff but now you are going to be visiting someone for Thanksgiving after all. Well that is good because you don't have to cook, and look on the bright side I think most of that stuff should make it to Christmas, no? I hope the turkey is not thawed out all the way. If it is still frozen then you can definitely make it for Christmas.

Hi soyporteno. Actually that you mention it,we are cooking the turkey today which happens to be the day after Thanksgiving and some other things are going to be cooked.
It should be enjoyable. I didn't eat much turkey yesterday so there is still room for more to eat!
Thank you so much for writing.

Hi bamakelly,
I'm not really known for entertaining so no, the holidays never end-up at my place.
I live in a small two-bedroom apartment with my daughter so there's not much room anyway.
Don't get me wrong, I really like my little two bedroom apartment, it's just not set-up for entertaining.
Since I'm a single mother, and am a really good person, people usually invite me to their family functions, because they consider me family and want to see my little girl get a good holiday experience.
Hope you have a good turkey day!!
Happy Thanksgiving and...
Happy MyLotting!

Hi princesskitten. I am happy that you responded to my post. It ended up I didn't have dinner at my place and went to another family's house that we are close with. We had a great day and the stress was nothing.
Take care.
