Best way to loose inches!

I just want to start off by saying I am not overweight by any means. However, I do feel like my thighs are not in proportion with the rest of my body, they are huge! I used to be in the marching band in high school and college so my legs are very muscular, and my calves are large too. I'm getting married in 10 months and I want to tone my arms, belly and but and loose a few inches off my thighs. I know walking is good exercise but I don't want to do anything that is going to build more muscle on my legs b/c that's why they look so big. Any suggestions? I don't want to have to starve myself to loose the weight, but a heathier diet I am willing to try...

I'm doing high cardio, low weight with high reps, and watching my food intake. I have until February to get it together because my bridal portraits are Feb 21 and we get married March 14 so.... I'm right there with you!

Walking is good but not be sure that you're not super brisk walking haha you might have the tendency since you mentioned you were in a marching band and that your legs are muscular so your tolerance to pain might be higher. Jogging also helps but keep a steady SLOW pace. You know how when you brisk walk? That same speed but jogging. It requires more energy so you'll burn more but since it's slow (with small steps), you're not straining your muscles too much. You might look a little stupid (running but the old lady walking passes by you quickly) doing this but my brother does it and it's effective.
Then be sure to avoid stairs or elevated places when walking, skip the stairs and stick to elevators/escalators. Daily walking on stairs actually has an effect (my legs are growing and so is my butt I think just after a week of opting for the stairs, which I don't mind really because muscles help burn more, right?)

I am hearing more and more about walking. I am reading that walking is better than even crunches for losing belly fat. And, I like weights for firming arms, legs, etc. That is what i will be doing from December til April2009. Trying to lose 95 pounds by then. I wish you well. You have twice as much time as I do. Good luck!
