How do you cook or season your bird on thanksgiving or any day for that matter?

I am a fan of roasting my turkey. I usually just use a little salt, pepper, and butter for a seasoning. Turkey is turkey if you ask me. I do think that with the gravy and all the other things that I offer to have a heavily seasoned bird would be too much. I always serve mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, turnip, stuffing(of course), cranberry sauce(jellied), and lots of gravy. Yummy Yummy. For dessert Cheesecake, coconut cake, pudding pie, and double chocolate brownies with white chocolate garnish. How about you? How do you do Thanksgiving? Are you home or going out? Please share? Its always nice to hear about other traditions. dloveli

We are staying home and the kids may go out later to their friends. WE will be having about 6 or 7 young adults for dinner. We are having a deep fried turkey that my granddaughter has injected with a creal seasoning. Then later this morning she will take it to a friends to have them deep fry it. We will also have mashed potatoes with gravy, Dressing, green bean casserole, collard and turnip greens, Rolls, Mac and cheese (for her boyfriend) and for dessert a sweet potato pie and cheese cake. We have cut down on having a big varity because every one eats too much and are miserable.

Lol, our turkey doesn't get much seasoning either. In fact, my husband prefers to have nothing on it at all. Let's see, today we'll have turkey, stuffing (lots of it), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes (my MIL will make that), cranberry sauce (jellied, like you;), green beans, maybe corn, a baked carrot dish my husband makes, pumpkin pie, and apple pie (with ice cream and whipped cream;) We used to also make a ham but my in-laws don't want to take any leftovers with them, so I took that off the menu. Having to eat the bird for most of next week is enough. Then I had my fill of turkey until next year;)

In the United States thanksgiving was created to comemorate the day where peace was made between the pilgrims and the indians. The fact that you and yours go to church and have a quiet family dinner is a better reason to be thankful. Your day sounds much more fulfilling. dl

tortiere is a pie made with hamburger meat usually beef, pork, and veal, but you can make it all beef if you want. ragout, is a stew made with heavy brown gravy potatoes, pig feet or chicken, they are both french canadian dishes.

I am going to my sister for Thanksgiving, most of the family members are bringing a dish I will be taking a sweet potato custard, my daughter is said she is doing some green beans. My sister mentioned a ham. I don't know who is doing the turkey.
I remember one of the best turkeys that I have eaten was at one of our Church Christmas dinners. The Usher board was in charge of this turkey so we bought a great big one and had it prepared by this place called Roger's BBq. The meat was so tender and good it fell right off bone into your mouth.

Barbeque Bird that's whats up!!!!!! My mouth was watering just reading your response. lol. I like it when everyone brings something. Those are the best kinds of meals. Unfortunately, I have a few family members that think that by showing up and overeating is doing there part. THis year its my turn to invite them. Every year we take a turn inviting certain ones. I dont mind really. THe more the merrier. I hope all goes well with you and yours. God Bless dl

I use butter, sage and poultry seasoning. I do not add alot, though as I also add these seasonings to my dressing.
It was just my husband and I today, so I just got a small turkey roast for the two of us. But in a couple of weeks we are going to have a small group of friends over and I am going the whole nine yards. I will have turkey, dressing, cranberries, mashed taters, sweet potatoes and probably a vegetable.
I do not bake well, so I will buy a pumpkin and apple pie from a bakery near me. I will make a chocolate cream pie also.

Well normally, Thanksgiving is at my house, but this year we are going to my moms. My siblings are all bringing a dish. I am sitting here relaxing, and enjoying the day. I made pound cake, zucchini bread, sweet potato pie, potato salad that's my contribution. My brother loves to fry the turkey so he is bringing that. My daughter is bringing macaroni & cheese, my sister green bean casserole. Since I discover fry turkey, it has become our family tradition.

I just cook the turkey with a little butter, and rosemary, salt, and pepper. I cook the stuffing separate on the stove. I will have potatoes and rice, mixed vegetables, salad, and corn and serve gravy. I love cranberry sauce, but my husband does it, and we cannot stuff the bird because my daughter-in-law is allergic to celery, carrots, oregano, parsley, etc. We will usually have ice cream and fruit for desert. Most of the time, since it is now just the two of us, we go out for thanksgiving to one of our son's house.

We cook in. Those coming to dinner bring part of the dinner with them, I usually cook the turkey, I like to fill it with herbs and fruit like orange and lemon. I put herbs under the skin and roast in a bag, It may not be the prettiest bird but it always comes out moist. If I don't roast it that way I may get a very pdretty bird but often a dry one.

I am sorry to say that I have already had thanksgiving in October. But now I have a christmas dinner to cook. I usually cook my turkey upside down. Then I do not have to baste it. Then I make stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, brussel sprouts and cheese carrots. We also have things like buns, cranberry jelly and pickles. Then for dessert we usually have homemade pumpkin pie. Although it is not my thanksgiving I would like to say Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

This is my first year cooking my own Thanksgiving dinner. I've gotten lots of tips for making my turkey including brining with sea salt. But I think I'm just going to use butter and salt and pepper like you. I am serving stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberry sauce, and homemade apple pie for dessert. Enjoy your dinners everyone. Happy Thanksgiving.
