With the way the economy is today, and the fact that it is so hard to get a job, many people will now have to start thinking about changing their careers. So jobs require certain skills, so a lot of people will have to go back to school to get these skills.
Do you think you are ever too old to go back to school?

No, definitely not. Anyone, regardless of age, have the right to have education. It can only improve you as a person. But, education can be in the form of informal education also, not just the formal ones in the university programmes. So, if money is a problem, or time is a problem, then consider gaining education, informally, and improve your life that way.

In that case, no I don't think its too old to go to school. Because, I believe there is no age for studying. One cannot know everything in the world. One has to keep on learning something throughout the life. If you are skilled in one profession, you may not be skilled in another profession. So I don't think is a limit for learning in this world. Having said that, there is no age limit for learning as well. So I will definitely do not think its too old to go to school or whatever in situation like that.

I don't think you ever get too old for education. I didn't get my degree until I was 35 yrs old and I wasn't the oldest person in many of my classes. If I could afford it I'd go back to college tomorrow and I'm 49 now. I still try very hard to learn something new every single day.

I also was one of the older students went I went back to school a few years back. I was interested in getting a better and advanced education, and was not at all itimidated by the younger students. You are correct, you are never too old.

Just yesterday there was an article in the newspaper of a 75 year old man who had to leave his education halfway because of certain circumstances but now finds himself free. So he has joined college and will be attending classe. He intends to graduate, do his Masters and then go for a doctorate. so you see it is never too late or too old to study. The only thing required is the will to do so. As for me, i have now retired so i do not feel the need to study further but since coming on the internet i have learned quite a bit without having to see the need to do so.

In 1999, at the age of 55, I wnet to university. I did a double major in Anthropology and Comparative religion, went on to take a First in Anthropology, and late last year completed a PhD program. I am living proof it's never too late.
Unfortunately my health has deteriorated so I will probably never get to follow my degree up with any field work, but I show that it can be done.
As for changing careers, I have been, for significant periods of my life, a public servant, an accountant, a professional musician, a professional cook, back to being a musician, and then an anthropologist. It can be done, just takes the motivation and some energy.

Thank you for your informative response. Congratulations to you on your drive and determination. My sister got her doctorate a few years back when she was in her fourties, yes, it can be done.

No, I don't think you're ever too old to get a higher education. I believe that any knowledge you gain, at any point in your life, is significant and bound to help you at one point, no matter how old you are.
I can't see any disadvantages to getting a higher education at an older age, but there's plenty of advantages. Like you mentioned, it aids with job opportunities and helps you a lot with what you do, especially if you're planning to switch careers. Many jobs today are very demanding because of improvements and technology and getting a higher education at any point in life is going to help you.
Also, people that may not have had means to get a better education at a younger age may have a chance to get one now. If they missed out once, I think that they should have the ability to go back and make up for it.
I think that knowledge is power, and both older and younger people should try to improve themselves by acquiring it. =P I don't think there's a point you just stop at and become "too old" for education, because people learn different things for the whole of their lives.

While we are young, Our passion is not enough for go through this live. We also think why live go slow. When we reach up to 30 years old, then we will think why dont we do that think early before we reach 30's. That's happen to most people in the world.

I think there is always a second chance for those who never were able to finish their careers, in this case i also agree that the times had changed and the opportunities to find a good job are really scarce; so it doesn't matter the age but the sight that this person has for a better tomorrow. In fact it is never too late to be prepared and go to school a second time.

hi,i figure going back to school for further education is no't required for you can doing something all by yourself.you can alway get a good master in some realm, say, computer skills, as long as you show your interest and hardwork on it.

I at least think so. One of my greatest regrets is never having gone for higher education. I could have easily qualified for and completed my masters yet at that time, my immature mind thought the prospect of job more alluring. However, now in middle age, there’s no point in going back and enrolling for it. I would not get any jobs from it and with family getting first priority, the course would have to take the backseat on commitment.

Now at 24 years old, I feel old. After six years of "hibernation" (I'm a second courser since my first course was, well, useless), I'm going back to square one in college. I can feel it especially when I can't anymore understand the 17-year-olds' linggos. Much worse, I feel like I'm getting rusty when it comes to classroom lessons, quizzes, reports, papers and all that. Oh, I just want to get back on my feet where I make about a day's living completely independent on where I spend them on--and without curfew restraints too! But I believe this second course that I'm taking will eventually lead to greener pastures in the near future.

Absolutely not. What ever hapen in the world , education is important. Either you learning in formal or not, you must lern everyday. higher educatoin is only for applying job which is need certificate. if you learn by yourself and had expeert with it,, you can apply new job with presenting the skill you have. That more efficeint than certificate you get from study.

Uh?
Never get too old to study my friends... but its all about opportunities and stamina rather than age. When I want to study higher education I will choose the nearer university as my stamina is, well let say not as great as I was 10 years ago.
My brain is as good as I was as I always train my brain by reading and solving puzzles game. So brain is not an issue as stamina is for me.

I think there is no age limit for education. The society has developed at a high speed, everybody should keep studying ,if not, you will be washed out by the society.
