Disadvantage of living in rental house

Are you in rent house or own house? What do you think is the advantage and disadvantage of being in a rented house? As far as I am concerned, you are not free to do certain things in your rental house, due to house owner restrictions, whereas in your own house, you can do anything you want. What exactly you think is the disadvantage of being in rental house?

We live in our own house, paying every month to the bank. Here in Portugal is the usual thing. But here, when you buy a house, you start to pay a series of taxes. It's: - every month, you pay for the building account (for cleaning, maintenance, etc) - every 6 months, you pay for having sewerage (it's incredible but that the way it is) - every 6 months you have the municipal tax to pay, also - every month, you pay the counting taxes of water, electric light and gas. So, if you rent a house, the owner has all that expenses but you don't, lol Next year, if the bank keeps increasing our month payment, we're thinking about leaving this house and renting another. In our building, same type houses costs less when renting.

In my area the the rental rates and monthly mortgage payments are about the same. You would think that no one would be willing to rent when the could buy for the same price. But there are still a lot of people in rental housing. Some of the advantages to renting: 1. You are not responsible for repairs unless you broke it. 2. You are not responsible for taxes or insurance other than personal possessions. 3. And in the case of apartments you are not responsible for mowing the grass. Some of the disadvantages of renting: 1. You can't paint or remodel unless the landlord approves. 2. Any improvements you attach to the house must stay with the house, like carpet. 3. The landlord can limit who stays at your house. 4. The landlord can inspect your house and require you to be a good housekeeper.

I own my house. But we have several rent houses. An advantage for rental property is if you did not want to be tied down to a specific area or didn't know where your job might take you. The disadvantage is that someone else is making the money and accruing equity off the property. Certainly it is like you always have a beig brother watching over you and I would not like it, but you know some people have to as they do not have credit or money to buy a home.

We rent our home. I think it is easier as buying a house seems risky as we are not sure of a location where we would want to live for awhile. There are negative of renting, such as a few we encountered last time we relocated. In the city we were moving to, there were few listings for rental houses in the paper, or anywhere really. Word of mouth seemed to be the way we found most of the available places, though we ended up getting a house that was listed in the paper by a real estate agency, and it hasn't been a pleasant experience. When you rent, your landlord is generally responsible for repairs to the property. Sometimes, they take a lot longer to even start a repair then it would of taken for you to have it resolved yourself. The laws in many states are somewhat slim in protecting a tenant. Where as you would get a 3rd party to inspect a house when you buy it, somehow getting one to inspect it when you rent it is not as much of a priority. I have never gotten a deposit back, though we have never had any damage and the property was always left in a condition able to be rented out that same day. There is always a hassle, and if you rent from an individual, it can sometimes be quite a strange interaction as well. Usually, you do not get the benefit of some agency interacting on your behalf to rent. And then you are left to engage potential landlords, who sometimes are less than professional. If you rent, and the owner has no problem with any modifications you make to the property, you are still left with that feeling that all you do will be for not. In my state, all is required is a 30 day notice of intent to sell for them to just randomly decide to sell the home you occupy. They do not have to actually honor the lease, though for you to break it, it usually has to be bought out. They are not required to reimburse you for any improvements you make, though with the housing markets as of late, that could be the case if you were trying to sell. Renting does not offer the equity that owning has, though at the same time, if for some reason you cannot make payments on your rental unit, there is the ability to just get evicted, or move before that time, with less cost than it would of been having a mortgage, having that debt, losing equity, and a major hit on your credit.

I've never rent a house. I think there is some reason people renting house. one is renting house is temporary thing due to the work place is far away from the the place you live. The most common reason is a lot people can't afford a house, they have to rent a house to live. reanting house is more convenient than buying one. you can move as many times as you want. As to diadvantage of living in rental house, I believe the restrict of owner will make you nut, and you will have to compromise.

I am also renting a house for now. I think advantage of rental houses is whenever you change your mind to move from your place to another is possible because you don't have to worry about the house because it's not yours. The disadvantage is your wasting your money because you keep on paying everymonth but eventually it will not be yours. OI wish I could have my own house soon.

Well, personally overall, I think there are good and bad to both depending on the type of $$ you have, and whether you are living in a place that will always be well maintained as well. I know sometimes it can be a lot cheaper to Rent than buy if you are not a Fix it person, or do not have the time. But at the same time if you are living somewhere and Renting and the person who owns the place does not take care of it well, that can be an issue as well. Personally I think that is a thing you need to be able to weigh the pros and cons up against and see what you can really afford, and then go from there. You will know what is Best when the time is right for sure.

Like you said, not being able to do certain things are a big disadvantage. But another disadvantage is that if you'r not renting to own, your money is going towards a landlord. In the end, you've spent alot of money, and still have nothing to your name. Atleast when you own a house, or rent to own, or whatnot, you have something, your not just putting money towards something you'll never own.

Presently, I'm living in an independent row house, provided by my employer. Earlier, I was staying in a rented house and my experience was very bad with that, due to constant interference from house owner.

The advantage is that is something like the furnace breaks down you don't have to pay for it the landlord does. The disadvantage is you can't change things if you want withoug the owners premission and some owners don't allow pets and so on.

For my four years of stay here in Cebu City Philippines because of my work here..I always renting a room and now a house.I think there is no advantage of renting a house because first reason is its not yours and you cant do anything new on it like renovating or if you want to change something to have a new view of the house..and if your renting you will always have to pay on time or else the owner will kick you out haha..its really hard but I know i can own a house someday..

We can't use nails and our favourite wall hangings shud lie on the loft. We shud come home early atleast before 10 pm and there are many other restrictions. The rents are so high I feel it's better to apply for a housing loan and buy a house for ourselves rather than staying in a rented house. Finally rented place will just be a HOUSE,our own place only can be our HOME

Home, sweet home. Home is other than a house. Home is a part of life. There is no place in this world like your home. Meaning of your home is your family. While meaning of a house is a building you live in which with your family or without your family. Here you mean a rental or own house. It is very much clear that every thing which is in your ownership is legally your own, but rental is not your own. You would spare your earned money and pay as rent. Every rental house is leased in result of an agreement with landlord, which bounds you to follow the rules, such as payment of rent well in time. Keeping house save from damages and so on. While your own house could not bound you. There is much and clear difference and every person would like to prefer his or her own house rather than living in a rental house. Rental house means; a rental life, which is very clearly not good.

We own the house that we are living in.The advantage of renting a house is that we can move to another environment that suites our convenienceYou are free from paying realty tax and you do not have the burden in its construction and maintenance. The disadvantage of renting a house is we always pay the rent and we never get to own any thing after paying for so long.

I'm actually renting a ROOM and not a house, and I see no disadvantages right now since I have my own space. Condo-sharing is another matter though, especially if you have to share room and toilet. But for renting a house, I think the lack of assurance that you'll always have roof above your head is the main concern. Plus you have no control over how much the rent rises (but you still cover the maintenance cost). Thanks for commenting in my discussion!

i agree with you that is one big disadvantage about renting and not olny that but whats the point in putting time and money into something thats not even yours. When you own it at least you get something out of it. But right now the disadvantage of owning a home is you can't get rental assistance if you are in a bin like we are right now. You have to do it all by yourself. If you rent you would be able to get rental assistance and the help.

I am residing in a rented house but this being a Government provided accommodation it is almost like my own house. There is none to interfere in my activities or to restrict my movement so long as I do not break the rules like making unauthorized construction. I have all the freedom of own house while I have to pay the rent. Those who are living in such houses do not experience the difficulties faced by the ones living in rented houses and have not to change residence due to bad relationship with the owner.
