With today being Thanksgiving I'm sure that some one will get heart burn. I came acroo this article that may help some of those that will have it.
Prilosec the purple pill has more profits for McDonald’s, Wendy’s, KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut combined! It is one of the better pill for heart burn. But the heart burn returns once you stop taking them.
Those fast foods that most of us like spend too much time in the stomach generating acid. Acidic foods such as coffee, chili peppers, orange and tomato juice, and tomato sauce can also cause heartburn, as can drugs like tetracycline, aspirin, and ibuprofen, as well as iron and potassium supplements.
There are also several foods that seem to promote heartburn by weakening the muscle at the base of the esophagus. These include garlic, onions, and–say it ain’t so–chocolate. Some drugs can have this effect, too. Formulations you’ll want to avoid include estrogen, narcotics, and Valium, as well as certain antidepressants and asthma medications.
Eating on the run can be another factor in heartburn. WE all do it when we are stressed for time. So eat slowly thoroughly chew yor food well and don't over eat.
Chewing gum will cause Saliva. which neutralizes refluxing acid and washes it back into the stomach..
Several herbs have long histories as heartburn remedies. After you eat, steep one to two teaspoons of chamomile, angelica, anise, caraway seeds, coriander, fennel, or a combination to make a soothing tea. Peppermint and spearmint.
Take a nice 30 minute walk after meal.
What ever you do don't lay down after a meal. Gravity helps keep stomach acid where it belongs. When you lay down that acid will creep into the esophagus causing heartburn.

Lose weighth if you need to. and don't wear too tight clothing.

Way to go Dr. dee.....Very sound advice, especially regarding the herbs, and also very time appropriate...because I bet all of you will be having a big Thanksgiving meal today! Don't send all the family/friends out walking tho'...some-one needs to help with the dishes! Happy Thanksgiving..all!
P.S. We Canadians had ours more than a month ago...so suffering L-Tryptophan with-drawals!

Thank you, so kindly deebomb! I guess each person must have a totally unique digestive system! I, too get severe indigestion from chewing gum....Dr. told me that I was swallowing air whilst chewing!
Two things that really work for me; pineapple (fresh if possible) and papaya (ditto)....even when I eat something I know is a sure indigestive goody, following with pineapple/papaya, I am fine! Always have pineapple on my pizza, too (usually make my own--or a frozen one!) It's worth a try, if you like it!
