Phone calls that are recordings--------

I am so annoyed at the trend of marketeers using pre-recorded phone messages. I answer the phone to hear some recording tell me "don't hang up, this is", well, I don't really know what the next line is because I have already hung up! How can these companies believe anyone is not annoyed at this. First they use the phone, which I have in my house for my convience, not for theirs! Then they are so lacking in respect for my time they use a recording to talk to me.
All telemarketing calls annoy me but apparently enough people are responding to these calls that the companies keep on using this sales method.
How do you handle this???

Oh yeah, when I hear "please hold for an important message" I actually do mutter some not nice things as I hang up.

We don't have those in the Philippines - I guess it's because whoever does it will get a really bad reputation. We don't like those kinds of stuff and we don't like listening to the people whom we're not related to or anyone that we don't *have* to listen to - so prerecorded whatever are out of the question. And the kids would most likely create pranks about them and that's what we'd like to listen to instead to laugh about the stupid companies who waste other people's time and annoy us :D
Thanks for the comment on my discussion!

Thanks for your commenting here!
It is interesting that you don't have the recorded calls in the Philippines. I thought that they would be a problem all over the world.
I find telemarketering simply intrusive. I have my telephone mostly to comunicate with friends, and I really dislike getting sales pitches over it. I don't know anyone who claims to like them, but some people must respond to them or the companies would not continue to use this approch.

Thanks Rose, its good to be back. This last year was pretty tough, lots of health problems for both of us plus other stuff going on. But life is good, we are better and enjoying lots.

I love to just block their calls when I get them. I use PhoneTray, I had a discussion on hear a few months back. Feel free to visit (and comment if you wish): http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1445959.aspx
We hardly get ANY telemarketing calls, only survey calls of the companies we've registered with, and calls from family. We are on the "do not call list" (USA), UK has similar list as well. When we do get a acll we don't want we just block it with the PhoneTray.
Have a nice day.

We were on the Do Not Call list for awhile [you have to re-opt in] and didn't find that it stopped that many calls. But thanks for the response.

Those kind of phone calls really annoy me as well. I also pretty much hang up right away. I also hate them because sometimes it takes time for the recording to start and then I am sitting there going Hello, Hello, Hellooooooooooo, only to hear a recorded voice come on the phone. It makes me so mad, I don't have time to wait for a stupid recorded voice to come on. The whole thing does not even make sense to me, who really wants to buy something from a recording?

Yes those delayed starts are extra annoying, but I had one that topped that a few days ago. The phone rang, I said 'hello', waited several seconds, said 'hello' again, several more seconds, again 'hello' more seconds tick by, finally just as I was about to hang up a real person spoke, saying 'sorry, I was finishing a previous call----' Again this is one of those I don't know what more was said because I hung up. Why would anyone expect me to just hang on the phone until they are finally ready to talk??? To me that is incredibly rude. I guess hanging up is too, but its not nearly as rude as what I would be tempted to say.

Great discussion,I had a similar experience but this time it was with my cell phone company.Apparent;y they were having a marketing blitz for the christmas season and thought it was a goood idea to do so on their customers cellphone.Mind you I am not against getting an opportunity to win something from my cellphone company but the way they did it was really annoying. What they did was ring up your number and you would answer thinking it was a legitimate call only to get a recording telling you of the prizes you could win. This is extremely annoying because you may be expecting an imprtant call and this prevents you from getting it .In addition you answer the phone like an idiot saying hello ,hello when its a recording.
Have a blessed season.

I don't have a cell phone so I am not 'up' on how the phone plans work, but somehow I am under the impression that you have to pay a charge for incoming calls as well as the ones you make. If that is the case did they charge you for the call they made to you?

I hate phone calls like the ones you speak of they are just so cold there is no humanism to them. I just hang up sometimes I will put it on speaker phone until the end of it and they either just say good bye or they hook you up with a real person usually I hang up before that part comes up.
