how do you like Daniel Craig as James Bond?

So far I see that my guy friends don't like him very much as James Bond. Something about being to crude and too brute. They say that James Bond should be suave and that they are really disappointed with the latest movie release because of the lack of "cool gadgets"... well I liked it. I prefer the James Bond that bleeds than the James Bond whose hair do never gets disturbed even though he rolled over dirt, not to mention that perpetual tuxedo that never seems to get dirt on. :) I like Daniel Craig and the new James Bond movie.

That's the problem with constant remaks of shows - the main character changes, time changes therefore the theory of the show changes. Roger Moore was 007 in my day, but Sean Connery was the original - I liked them both. Pierce Brosnon - wasn't he the next generation before this current guy? DIdn't like him and have no ambition to see this new one. They change it so much that it just takes away from the original - if you have never seen COnnery or Moore - you won't know what I am talking about. THen again, people would say that COnnery was prettying boring compared to today, but you have to look at it with the mentality of the times - you can't take what we know today and critique a show of yesteryear. But the whole point of James Bond was he was swab, debonair, classy, maticulate, got things done without getting his hands dirty... that was James BOnd - you know, "shaken, not stirred". To have James Bond rolling in the dirt and getting all bloody - just means James Bond is loosing his touch! They should just make a Milenium Bond and not even have him compare to James Bond - Sometimes it is best to just leave things as they are and not change them!

Yeah, you have to look at a show within its times. I mean, if Sean Connery's James Bond just came out today - it most likely wouldn't make it to the box office. But it sold out everytime, "back then" when it did come out. These days they can do so much with techniques and computer and special effects that they couldn't do back then ... but movies were hits then as they are now. I think this time, although I haven't seen it, that they are just taking the whole "Bond, James Bond" analogy and destroying it tho. I mean, class and style and and even grace were what Mr Bond was about - all the while taking the bad guy down! But special effects and alot of voilance and all is what people like today. Come another 30 years down the road when James Bond is mechanical - someone will be doing just like you and saying "that Craig guy just didn't cut it as a Bondman!!" LOL! Funny how times change and effects more than just the economy and things like that!!

Never thought about it that way. Maybe they're just trying to make as much money as they can out of the series before they completely let it rest. Or maybe then they're just giving some people a break so that the next time they get a new bond actor, it'll be kinda refreshing :D

So I guess the "improvements" don't appeal to the old fans. But you're the first that didn't like Pierce Brosnan (he's too cute for me). And I get your point about not getting his hands dirty... I guess the directors are trying to recognize the new generation's perception on things - how my friends and I argue about stuff like, "how the hell did he fall 2 floors down and not get a bloody skull? and why is his polo still tucked in?? That's bull man!" On a side note, I don't like it when they're making everything too mainstream (which I'm glad they DIDN'T with Daniel Craig) like how they're doing the up coming XMen movie. Ugh. It's going to be High School Musical with super powers.

No not at all. I really don't like him as James Bond but maybe what I like is that James Bond is also being shown as human as he can be.

But don't we go to a James bond movie with an intention of watching a suave James bond, always stylish complete with latest gadgets.

Yes that is true. But in such cases, many time I leave my brain aside and watch movie without applying any logic.

well I don't :P Whenever I got see a movie, I let myself be carried away with the story and the presentation. The suave James bond often rips me from that state of nirvana and I end up saying "what the heck, you hair wasn't even touched??"

I think he's OK as James Bond. He's not as suave as the past James Bond's were but he's still pretty good. He gets down and dirty and prefers to do things through brute force. The newest movie lacks the cool gadgets and the nice cars but I don't think that's Daniel Craig's fault.

I don't like him as James Bond, I think the casting director for James Bond franchise made a big mistake in choosing him as 007, he lacks certain qualities as James Bond, he has no ex-factor that drew people around or atleast to his role. The suave looks Sean Connery and Roger Moore possessed is missing in him and the fantastic appeal of the two above amazing James Bond seemed eluded Daniel Craig. Even the boyish grin of Pierce Brosnan is not evident in the facial expression of the latest oo7, no wonder the last two James Bond movie failed to capture people's fantasy. I would say that the best James Bond ever were Sean Connery and Roger Moore, nothing can beat them so far.

I didn't like Sean Connery as James Bond and Pierce Brosnan, they seemed to possess to much finesse for me. I guess I don't hold the common notion on James Bond :) I also didn't watch the old movies (can't stand them haha). But people have been saying that there is a lack of a certain quality in Daniel Craig...

I LOVE Daniel Craig as James Bond! As Bond, he's rough, rugged, and highly intelligent. At the same time, he has that "bad boy" image showing through! A lot of women are drawn to men like that! That accent is killer! All that combined makes him oh so sexy. I want to see more of Daniel Craig!

I don't see him very much like a bad boy...I actually think he looks "boyish" and somewhat immature in terms of how he'd do everything to get what he wants. Welcome to myLot!

I was never a Bond fan. I thought all the plots were silly, and I don't really like the image of Bond that was created for the films--suave and smooth, and a lady killer. From what I've heard, Casino Royale is much closer to the original novels. I've also been a fan of Daniel Craig for a long time, so I was glad to see him get the role. I just hope that he keeps doing other kinds of movies because Bond isn't much of a stretch for an actor.

Ugh! I think the creators of the James Bond movies could not have found a more ugly Bond if they had tried harder! Daniel Craig looks more like a lumberjack or long-distance truck driver and less like a suave-superspy. He seems to have all the grace and poise of a dinosaur. A pity. Daniel Craig would have made a great Bond villain though. After Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan had built the Bond brand right around himself and this guy with the truck driver looks just doesn't make the cut. And talking about the Bond that bleeds and gets dirty, I loved Die another day and the grim look of Pierce Brosnan in that movie. Classic movie, that!

I'm a guy and I think that Daniel Craig is the best James Bond. I tend to like the gritty and down and dirty James Bond. I think without all the gadgets and sauve-ness, even I could be James Bond...You never know!

He may not be sleek but he plays James Bond on a more realistic way. We should remember that he's supposed to be the inexperienced James Bond as Daniel Craig's first Bond film is the first Bond film. Maybe he perfected proper grooming, etiquette along the way in his life as a secret agent. He may not be athletic and kind of stocky but still he's the real deal. He falls in love with, he got his balls hurt so bad he couldn't walk for awhile. Who who'd imagine James Bond went through it all? While Pierce Brosnan and other other bonds were all about flirting. Not totally though.

Daniel Craig do not look the typical James Bond because he looks old. But, his actions stunts were amazing and I doubt if Pierce Brosnan can keep up with his skills.

I never, ever liked James Bond. Not even as a kid. However, I could always see why it appealed to people so much and those reasons are the ones you name as the things you don't like about him: Cool gadgets and the fact he always looks perfect. That's why I'm a Jason Bourne fan, he's supposed to be the "Gritty James Bond" version. And that's why I don't like the new Bond either, I simply don't need him because I already have the Jason Bourne series. I would like to clarify something though, the new Bond is not rough because he's in his beginnings, he's rough because they decided to restart the series and make him rougher. Remember, Craig isn't making a prequel to the previous movies. I don't like Bond, but I'm glad you guys are enjoying the new movies anyways :) Rich

Oooh they're really restarting the series? I think I like that idea even better. Hopefully the next bond movie would have everything in it: a lot of him getting dirty and him having his hands on "new technology" :)

He is definitely no Sean Connery, but I think he is the best bond since him regardless of his crummy scripts. I am disappointed by far more than just the lack of gadgets in this movie. They need to go retro on bond scripts, but keep the action of the newer ones. Happy Turkeyday! -Undertheoath

And I didn't really notice the script haha I was too busy oggling (is that even a word?) at the hot girl he was with... the only girl he didn't touch??

I am with your guy friends. I prefer James Bond to be suave and to have great toys and to have some cute lines to say. My favorite Bond is Roger Moore. He had some great toys and he did wear a tux real well. He seemed to be having a good time.

I made a debate on this subject on squidoo at http://www.squidoo.com/danielcraigisjamesbond Basically I think Daniel Craig is a good James Bond but the Quantum of Solace suffered the same kind of affliction that marred On Her Majesty's Secret Service, that being BAD directing.

Whenever I think of James Bond I see in my mind Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan. I am not used to see Daniel Craig in the role of the Agent 007. I did not see the second movie with him yet, I heard that is worth watching, but with the first one he didn't earn my vote so I'm rather conservative and maybe I would like Brosnan back.

hehe yes, the usual James Bond uses more of his brains than his muscles. But the latest image i think, is good for this age and time--not that the current James Bond lacks the smarts, but he is just more athletic. Nice observation though with Bond's hair.. hehe =)
