is there any way to cure thyroid?

my friend has thyroid and she has visited many endocrinologists... all they say is to continue the medicines for their lifetime... in this present medical revolution why don't we have any medicines to cure thyroid completely? i heard surgery doesn't really have an effect and thyroid recurs... so is there any way to cure thyroid?

I've that it can be removed surgically or by eating iodine rich food the effects can be minimized. Eat lots of sea food especially shell fish like crab and prawns
