Yes, I noticed that. Wherever the story goes, the same basic plots are still there. And the teenage girl who hates the popular blonde cheerleader, that can even be considered a classic. And please don't use chat speak.

Nah. "Good beats evil" is standard. "Underdog wins after lots of struggling" is another (that's the cheerleader one). there are many stories which don't end like that, though. Terminator 3, The Eighth Day, 37o2 le Matin (Betty Blue)... heck, even Forrest Gump didn't have a very standard ending. And that's just the films - books are even more varied.

I disagree that EVERY book is so predictable. I think that some of the more modern books don't always follow that specific formula. What I'm thinking of is actually a movie but it proves my point. The Departed with Leonardo DiCaprio is a great example. Leo's character was the "good" guy but that didn't translate into him "winning." I really love movies like that because some books and movies are so predictable you don't even have to get through the entire thing to know what happens. Some books that are like this too are The Great Gatsby, Gone With the Wind, and Things Fall Apart. These were all great books where I think the ending was more realistic in that it wasn't a battle between good and evil rather an account of what happens between people.

Most stories are a quest. When you think about it the plot breaks down into a quest of boy wants girl, man needs money, police detective needs to arrest someone who is doing crimes. Yes a lot do have the theme of good over evil as we do like to see a hero succeed, whether it is the prince slaying the dragon thus rescuing the princess, or whether it is Forrest Gump find success in life. The good and bad characters form an immediate conflict in a story so the theme is popular.
