The recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai convince me even more that regular people need to learn to be a hard target. The world is very much a dangerous place and one of the basic skills that the average person needs to know is a set of street smarts or to make themselves a hard target. This is something that I is reinforced in every anti-terrorism course that I have taken.

Back in 2002 I was living in Maryland when the Beltway Sniper was randomly shooting and killing people for several weeks until he was finally caught. We learned at that time how vulnerable you are during so many activities. Living through that experience taught me to always be aware of my surroundings, which I think is something that everyone should do. Right now I live in the country in south Florida so the only threats I have to be aware of are snakes and gators but, again, you have to be aware of your surroundings or you could get bit.

Situational Awareness is always important. Part of that is to think of all our routine activities as something you do for the very first time. People are always more aware when they do something for the first time. Thanks for commenting.
