How do you know if someone regrets breaking your heart?

If someone breaks your heart how do you know if their back because they want to fight for you, or because their scared of being left behind. Someone that broke up with me recently came back. I thought they came back because they wanted to fight for me, but it began to unfold that they were a very insecure person and they didn't fee like they could get anyone else. One thing i don't ever want to be is someone's reserve. Your there because the person they really want wont give them the time of day anymore, that's like a nose dive to the self esteem. You wonder what that ideal person for them would look like, would talk like, would smell like, would move like. You keep comparing yourself to a figment of your own imagination. Maybe you compare yourself to someone real? But how many of you are like me sitting across the dinner table, or the restaurant table, or the cinema, smiling at someone you like but secretly thinking why are you here? Why are you back?
