after being trampled by a throng of unruly shoppers when a suburban Wal-Mart opened for the holiday sales rush Friday, authorities said. At least three other people were injured. Wal-Mart Stores Inc., in Bentonville, Ark., would not confirm the reports of a stampede but said a "medical emergency" had caused the company to close the store, which is in Valley Stream on Long Island. Nassau County police said the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m., an hour after the store opened. The cause of death was not immediately known. Good lord! This is insane! Nothing inside any store is worth a persons life. How could people get so out of control?! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081128/ap_on_re_us/wal_mart_death

One of the many reasons why I do not bother going out on Black Friday. I am not going to get trampled because of some dumb toy that my kids really don't need in the first place.

That is just absolutely horrible! I went to one Black Friday sale this morning at Kohl's and to be honest with you it really wasn't worth it. I got one toy that was 50% off and a sheet set and matching lamp for my daughter's room. It was all 50% off but I spent 2 1/2 hours at the store for those bargains! And to top it off the whole time in line the woman in back of me kept bumping into me, "accidentally" pulling a few of my hairs, and complaining. I finally turned around and told her to knock it off. She was not getting in front of me in a 2 hour long line. People are just ridiculous. It is not worth it to be trampled or pushed or hurt for these sales. Even if they are giving the stuff away. I wish more retailers would just hand out tickets or put the stuff online. With that being said, I hope everyone has a nice day and happy myLotting!!!

It is unbelievable. I didn't do black friday today. My husband did and he said when he went to walmart a woman stepped on his foot and shoved him back. He cussed her out. but that was all that was done. It could have gotten worse. thankfully it didn't. I asked him what she was trying to get and he didn't even now. some people.

I heard about that on TV this morning, all I could do was shake my head. I went shopping on a Black Friday one time and said never again. It is unbelievable how some people push and shove to get those bargains. Some people have children with them and the crowds are so out of control. Imagine, killing people so that you can spend your money. Security, doesn't matter, because once the doors open, they can not control the crowds. I feel so bad for that young man, going to work, and never returning home because of juvenile acting adults.

i find it sad and also surprising that the person is so young and i was expecting someone older who could do nothing to stop himself or herself from being stampled. but someone this young and i think should be able to take care of himself or herself. and also is the crowd really that bad that led to the stampede. i did not see for myself but i have been in some real rowdy and large crowd so i can feel some pressure but not able to react in this instant to a certain extent amaze me. if it is so bad, there should be more casualties

I black friday shop in fact I was out at about 530 this morning. I have gone every year since I was 16. So 9 years I have gone and in all that time I have NEVER encountered anything like that. I can't belive that people would be that horriable! Some one had to see him laying there. I hope that the people that did this to that poor man are held accountable. I don't know how they would even begin to round up those people but I would think security cameras could help. How horriable for the family of this young man. He was only 34! I hope wal mart does some thing for the family of this man!

The urge to save a few lives claims a life. This shocks me. I personally have seen shops so overcrowded during sales that it scares me. And this just confirms my worst fears - overcrowded malls and sales rushes can kill.

Oh sheesh!! how awful! I cant believe the attitude of those people. stepping over him and not even bothering to show sympathy. When they were asked to leave all they thought of was themselves. Forget about the poor man who they killed and his family. I am sick after hearing this. I don't go out on black friday because the money saved is not worth the hassle. I feel for the family of that poor man.

Hello What is wrong with people ? My Lord ! Is a sale really that worth it ? I have never gone out during the black fridays days . if people are crazy as is just around holidays think about then . I mean i have wanted to BUT ! Anyway that is sad he was just at work and now look . My fiance was working at walmart many years ago and they were having a sale and he was in the way of a lady with a cart and she ran over like the heels of his legs to get out of the way . That is shocking now that i think about it , but at the time me and my bro laughed at it .

This just proves it, people are idiots. I have never ever shopped on black friday, and don't ever plan to. Too many idiots out there who lose all common sense in the hunt for a bargain. On the news the other day they showed people who were in line in front of a store on TUESDAY to wait for the Friday sales. They planned to camp there the entire time. Can we say stupid??? How many times do we hear stories on the news of people shot or injured because they got the last toy that some other moron wanted more? Unfortunately I think the retailers bring alot of this on themselves. If they want to have great sales don't make it a one day event. Don't allow people to mass in front of the doors waiting for them to open. And stop doing such ridiculous price changes just to get people into the doors to make a sale. Because unfortunately some of those people coming in the door may not live to get back out of it.

When I read this news, I was so infuriated at how far we've gone as humans and consumers. I guess a discounted flat screen TV is worth more than a man's life now.

i cant believe that people get that worked up over sales!! seriously. with the economy the way it is dont they have better things to spend their money on? is killing a man really that necessary? maybe the stores should increase security or maybe they should just give the workers the day off except for the cashiers and the people can just run around crazy without hurting anyone. so hard to believe

Why thats just awful! I blame the stores for having these type of sales. Now this family won't have a merry christmas with their loved one gone. Accident or not that is terrible.

I heard about this earlier from several discussions about it. I think it is terrible that adults do things like that and they do not even care what they have done.

This is a tragic mockery of one kind of another. It almost feels like some moral thesis against our society that people get run over for a sale.

Watch This Movie - Zeitgeist Addendum offers and explanation for our curent society.
Hi ersmommy1, It's the world we live in. There was a perceived scarcity and people pounced on it. We are manipulated to think that we need these things in our lives and told [by Walmart] that the place to get the best prices on these things are at their store...so people will literally step-over eachother to get the "best deals". This is not normal human nature, this is how we have been programmed by society to behave. We are conditioned to be savages. For a better explanation, watch the movie Zeitgeist Addendum and www.zeitgeistmovie.com . Happy MyLotting!
