Is this life just an illusion?

When talking with a friend recently he made the comment: "Of course none of this is real, no one really dies, this life is only an illusion". Thinking about his statement, I remembered hearing other say that they felt this life was only a dream, from which we would all awaken someday. This got me thinking as to whether or not this was this was in line with my own thinking, after all I feel that we lived somewhere before coming here and that we will continue to live after making our transition. So what do you thing, is this life real or is it only a dream?

Morning, Pose. It is a good and interesting discussion to me. Sometimes I like to joke to the young that they used to be somewhere as grandparents or whatsoever before they came to this world. They all laugh when I say so. But anyway, I think that this life is real, which is not only a dream, because we really have no idea what we used to be...

Yeah, if we can't live happily in this world, we can think it's an illusion. We can think our dream is the real, and dream beautiful dreams at night, take it as real and dream whatever will make us happy and relax. And when we "dream" in the day, we work and live. Anytime when we met unhappiness, just tell ourselves that it's only illusion, it will pass and we will get real life at night.

Welcome To The Grand Illusion.... Well yes and no, The earth and all matter is real, If I hit you with a rock and you bleed and your head hurts, can i then say, "hey stop crying, it is just an illusion". The illusion is that some believe this is all there is. The physical universe is an allusion to the point of view that there is nothing beyond it. We are a box with five openings that we use to evaluate the physical universe, to see or to perceive that which is not seen one must create a new opening.

If what you say is correct does that mean that all my bills are just an illusion too? Yes, please!I do believe in reincarnation and so that feeling of being here before could very well be true. As far as all of it being a dream I am afraid it is not.

Hi celticeagle, Thanks for commenting, what a great thought, bills are just an illusion! I believe everything is real while we are here including our dreams, but if we never die, aren't some of our worries illusions? Blessings.

Hello, I agree with your friend. This physical life on earth is an illusion that we choose to play out. We "trick" ourselves into believing it is real while we are here so our higher selves can learn lessons, and experience life in the 3rd dimension. There are some people in history that know the true reality of existence, and they try to explain it. For example, the saints and prophets in religions. Often times they are labeled heretics or crazy, and are even killed or tortured. This is because the true reality is very dangerous and opposing to society. Thanks for reading!

i wish I had the answer, it seems like such a waste of a whole life to just go through it and then end up in a hole in the ground, I have always wondered if there was not more to it than we know. That we just go and become someone else in another life. I know the bible say from dust we came and dust we will go back to, I guess if you believe in what the bible tells us then one day it is over and we are no more. I would hope not but then we will never know till that day comes.

Hi bdugas,Thank you for your response. No book or anyone else can give you that answer, I go within and that is the only place where I can find answers to such questions. We do not all have to believe the same thing, but we should all respect others and their beliefs or lack of them. As we say not one of us can know with certainty until the day of our transition. I truly believe that there is a divine order to all things and we need to forget our differences and come together as one. After all if we spent our life here making peace, eliminating poverty and just making this world better for everyone, we need never fear what comes after. Blessings

I feel that this statement is relative. The one who is dreaming has no idea that he is dreaming until he awakens, but that does not mean that his experiences in the dream are not experiences in the first place. Say we are thrown up in the air in a dream, we will be experiencing all the terror of falling down and also of being thrown up inside the dream. The pain and the suffering that we experience is also real. How many of us wake up from our nightmares completely shivering and sweating? Why does this happen? It is because we connect ourselves with the dream body and we feel we are the dream body. That is how we experience everything in the dream, and that is how we experience everything after we wake up too. Once the sense of "I am this body" goes away, then whatever experience we had with this body becomes dream experiences. Mind you, the experiences might become unreal, but the knowledge that comes with them does not leave us. So, if you consider life as a means of getting knowledge, then it is completely real.. otherwise you might wake up from it anyday.

Well, I consider myself a christian ,but at the same time I believe in reencarnation. I really think life is real ,but the question should be if this is the only life that we have? I have been in places where I get the impression that I have been there before.

Hi Mirita, Thank you for responding, I too feel that reincarnation is probably true, in fact I seem to be moving closer and closer to complete acceptance of it. You are not alone, many Christians believe in reincarnation and there is also considerable proof that many of the early church fathers did as well. Blessing.

Hello, Pose123. So, following your friend's statement, this life is only a dream. And what about when you wake up? Will you start living? Interesting, because if you start living, then something should be different to tell that this was a dream and the next thing will be life. What will be different when you wake, then? I think that this life is real. Everything we go through, everything we feel, this is all real. Now, I don't know if there is something next. We will only find it out when we die. What happens? Black forever? The eternal darkness, and you will not be able to feel anymore? You will just die and everything will disappear for the forever? Impossible to tell. In fact, we will all find out someday. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

First of all, who is to say that dreams aren't real? If something is experienced (and dreams are) and experiencing them leads to changes in behaviour and the way we understand things (and dreams can have this effect), then they are as real as any other experience we have. We are the sum total of all our experiences. There are many different types of experiences, and I dreams, allucinations, transitins to other lives (if you believe we do that when we're born and when we die), are all legitimate experiences. In total, these experiences make up or reality. They are all real.

Hi uroborus, Thank you for responding and you are correct, dreams are real experiences. I'm pleased that you reminded me of that. I expect our beliefs are very similar. Blessings.

One night I dreamed that I was dreaming. In my dream I had an important exam but I overslept and I didn't make it in time for my exam. I was vey angry at myself. Then I woke up (still in my dream)and I realized that I hadn't overslept, there was still plenty of time for me exam. I was really happy and relieved. And then I woke up in "real life" and I realized that there was no exam. It was all just a dream. Now I'm wondering what will be next. When will I wake up realizing that the life I'm living is nothing but a dream? ;-)

Hi Porcospino, Thank you for that comment. Wow! Almost a tongue twister isn't it? It seems I've had similar dreams, not about exams but about work. I guess dreams are very real experiences too. Blessings.

On the contrary, I think it is real. And it is in my belief this is one and only chance we have to make good in this life. So better do what is right and what is beneficial for everyone. So when the time comes that we have to leave this world, we will continue to live in the hearts of everyone we have encountered in our lifetime. Peace... :)

It is real because we are living taking breaths, making our life by our decisions that we take. It is rather short but yes it is real. © ronaldinu 2008

Yes life is an illusion to most people. To those Religious Sorts, its a bad dream, filled with Threats of Hellfire, from a Vindictive God. Everyone has lived before, and will come back as a newborn to live again. This is proven fact, ask any Hypnotherapist.

I have a different view....I believe its only Life which is real...everything else that we think about beyound lives & soul & eternity are illusion. So we should not think much of that & just live our life to the fullest in a positive & sober way in this REAL world....takecare

This life is what it is. Whatever you make out of life is what its going to become. I believe that this is just another stop on our non-stop existence of an unexplained universe. If we in fact are in space then the mathematical explanation of space is a never ending plateau. We are in space and space never ends, we are unexplained like space and we also go on forever only in different galaxies, universes, and realities. It's all a mystery that we have to find within ourselves.

Hi jambi, Thanks, Another great answer. I believe that it is all a great mystery, but that life continues and there is a perfect plan which we could never understand at this stage of our spiritual evolution. Blessings.
