I sure hope my kids will treat me better than this when I get older. How would you teach your children to respect the elderly?

Hi ersmommy1,
Wow, that woman must have been one lousy mother for her daughter to put her in a place like THAT!
My daughter will not be taught to respect the elderly, she will be taught to respect herself and others. The first thing she is learning to respect is her mother and her boundaries. She's only 2 but this type of training needs to be started early.
To teach my daughter to respect a certain group of individuals is reckless.
Happy MyLotting!

The woman had 8 cats and when they found her, 6 were curled up next or on her, mostly on her core. the doctors said that by keeping her core warm and her head cool, it was actually about the best that could've been done without medical treatment.

Hello ersmommy. I am so sorry to know that this aged mother of her is left unattended to at home as to live to stay warm with her fifty cats. But I appreciate her cats that keep her warm, so nice cats as to be friends with her. So up to now, is there any updated news about the poor woman, please? I hope that she is now well taken care of somewhere nice and warm. Bless her and her cats.

Hello again. I am very happy to have read the following that her mother was placed in the care of DCF, good for her.
"Bosket was arrested and transported to the Volusia County Correctional Facility in Daytona Beach. Her mother was placed in the care of DCF.
Animal control officers took custody of the animals."
Thank you for the link, friend.

That poor woman. Her daughter should be ashamed of herself for sticking her mother in a home like that. I am glad she got arrested. My kids are taught to respect everyone. Even those who probably don't deserve their respect should be treated nicely.

Just wow ! I cant believe just to stay warm she had to go thru all that and to think there was no one to help her now that is sad . People could of pitched in and help get her some heat . not only that but it seems she needs some looking after too . With my family i just hope that they always think the way they do now . with family you do what you have to do !

Oh my goodnessWhy would someone let their parent live like that? She must hate her mother for sure to let her live like that in that type of situation to not even gotten her a heater..shame and she was old enough to know better also. I don't think I could do that..wait I know I would never do that in any situation.

Isn't warm on Florida? They have over 75F during the day.Maybe it was cold at night.
She wouldn't survive in Chicago, we have 25F at night lately...
It is so sad...

This is sad. But you have to think if the mother wanted it this way as well. I know an elderly woman that stays at the local homeless shelter, and has for over 10 years! Her children are all doctors and lawyers, but she refuses to stay with any one of them! It makes you think what kind of people they would have to be if she would prefer a homeless shelter over living with them.

These 50 cats were like the elderly woman's children. If she didn't have these cats to keep her warm, she wouldn't survive. Her daughter deserved to be arrested for neglecting her mother on Thanksgiving and not giving her a working and safe heater to feel cozy with.

ersmommy I truly believe that we parents only have one tool to teach our children and that is "example" if we live by our believes and at the end things don't work to our expectancies at least we will have the knowledge that we did the best we "knew". Also we need to remember that not even the fingers in our hand are the same so we all are different and make our own choices, so we can only do our best and "Hope for the best".

wow. to do that to an elderly person.. I lived with out heat for a few years and my 17 cats came in very handy in winter. But It is not a situation I would force on an elderly person- I am sure there must have been something that could have been done to help her.. and those conditions- WOW!

I cant even imagine having to live like that! The daughter should be put in jail for a LONG TIME! I cant imagine anyone doing that to their mother. Im so horrified by this story.
As for teaching a child to respect the elderly, we can only hope that they do and for now mine do good. They open doors, and help them when they see someone needs it.
I still cant believe that someone could leave their mom living like that!

by setting yhe example. show them that you respect the elderly, every chance you get. children learn by seeing and through the examples we set for them everday.

This is an incredible story, but kind of weird. Yes, we should feel responsible for taking care of our parents once they get older. Even though if we are too busy with work and can't allocate the time to take care of them ourselves, we should take responsibility of solving that problem. We can hire a maid to take care of him or her when we are not at the house, or we can send them to a care centre that takes good care of the elderly, and provides them with a place to interact with other elderly people. But we must not neglect them, that's very irresponsible, and evil, as they have worked really hard to take care of us when we were little.

You would think at age 54 she would be contemplating how she will be taken care of when she reaches her mother's age... it's just plain sick and twisted. I don't know how one can teach decency and respect for PEOPLE in general. I do believe that children learn through example, i guess her mother didn't prove to be a good enough example or something. It is just sick all about... be it a bad upbringing or simply a the daughter being a cruddy person.

My concern was were the cats being cared for or were they sick and no cat boxes? Was the 84 year old Mom ill or deprived of food? There are ways to get around the no heat, although it shouldn't happen. I am also concerned with the housing crisis tht most shelters are so overrun with discarded cats and dogs that most of them are put to sleep without any chance to be adopted. I personally have rescued cats for 25 years. I worked with the Humane Society and the Shelter's and also with Farel Cat Coalition. Some people accused me of being a horder and I asked the Vet. at the Humane Society and she said, "OMG we know you here and you are NOT a Horder". She went on to say tht they had been to my home and never before had they been in a small house with that many cats and they all were social. They come to the new person to greet them and it is pet me, no pet me, no me!!! They were amazed and told me that with horders the cats are full of fleas and no cat boxes or very dirty ones and the cats go to the bathroom everywhere. No food or water. My catboxes were clean pleanty of fresh water and food. All spayed and nutered and on Advantage so no fleas or other parasites either. Horders have psychological problems and they do not take caare of the cats or dogs and they are sick and dying, very sad situation indeed. I hope the Mom is OK and doing well in a nice word place. I also hope as many of the cats as possible had a chance for Life.
