I love "kakanins" or those native desserts. My favorites are Jalaya de Ube, Nilupak na saging or balanghoy and Bibingkang Kanin. We use to prepare these desserts during the New Year and Thanksgiving along with other favorite dishes. Advance Happy Thanksgiving and New Year Dong!

Aside from suman, Puto bumbong is my favorite. Of course not just puto bumbong as many others do it. They are not using "pererutong" but instead are just putting food color. I would prefer those made of one hundred percent pererutong Dong and must be served with true butter, young coconut and sugar. Hmmm, yummy! Thank you for giving me an idea. I think it is about time for me and my hubby to go to the town proper and look for our suki who sells the best puto bumbong. There are other stalls in that place that also sell puto bumbong but they are fake so we always look for our suki in order to get the best tasting puto bumbong that we like a lot.

hi dong. between the two my favorite is bibingka. i especially like the ferino's brand. it is expensive but definitely worth the money. the bibingka simply melts in your mouth and the tastes lingers for such a long time. i really can't have enough of ferino's bibingka. i know there are other brands out there but nothing beats ferino's. my favorite branch is the one in makati avenue. i remember when i was in college i always bring my date to ferino's so that they we can enjoy and share a ferino's bibingka. never mind if the date was so-so, a ferino's bibingka always seems to save the date. lol!!! anyway, the local bibingka sold near churches during simbang gabi is good as well but it can never come close to ferino's bibingka. cheers!!!

I like bibingka also but its like it is common to almost any places and they are selling in almost year round. I like the native delicacy of Leyte which is called "Moron". Its one of my favorite. This Christmas season will be full of kakanins in every Filipino's dining table. Advance Merry Christmas my friend.

They must be traditions although you don't explain what they are.We have advent which is like a run up to christmas day and the birth of christ, there are several church services but as a non church goer I don't know much about them.Advent calenders are brought for the kids and anyone really ,you either get them with chocoates or toys in them ,they start on the first of December and they open one window everymoring and it helps build up the excitment till christmas day for the kids. When they open the last window and take the treat they know the next day father christmas will bring their presents,Christmas eve with kids that still beleave and in some cases when don't, we put out carrots for the reindeer and a drink and cake for father christmas,Which the parents have to eat quick or get rid of by the time the kids wake up in the morning,it is wonderful and magical time for the kids and that is what it is all about really.

when the christmas is coming i always love to eat bibingka with a lot of butter or margarine on top with freshly grated coconut meat. but since i'm staying now on cebu i miss the bibingka in manila though they have a bibingka version here in cebu, i still love the taste of the bibingka in manila.
