Black Friday - is it worth getting killed over?

Looks like the Black Friday shopping frenzy is getting out of hand. Apparently now we also have to hope that people make it out alive. In NY at a Walmart an employee was trampled to death when he opened the doors for the shoppers. In a ToysRUs elsewhere two women started to beat each other up, then the men accompanying them shot each other. While the latter may not be related to the Black Friday shopping frenzy, the first one definitely is. What is wrong with people?

Well, people are waiting this kind of holiday as there are a lot of sales, yes! sale, sales, sale and sales etc., so their money can buy more what they want.
Especially Christmas season is also fast approaching, and they begun crazy shopping.
Shopping there, shopping here and everywhere until they drop.

I agree, what is wrong with people. I can't beleive people would fight over products. That is just stupid. I started a discussion about black friday fights. My wife seen two fights while she was in Walmart. That is pathetic. Some people just have no repect any more. I think it would be better to just stay home and shop online.

Well there is much comedy in people fighting at the grab box/table in the store over the sale item. This sad event puts another perspective to something like that. There always seem to be verbal fights, pushing/pulling, looks like sometimes even the fists fly and blood is drawn... but killing somebody over a sale really tops it all. Why can't people be civilized?

This is beyond being crazy, ridiculous or sickening, it's down right embarrassing to have to say that animals have better sense than that, but they do. Mankind is falling below the line of civilization. Hard to believe how the world is going totally to hell.

Yes, as common courtesy has fallen to the wayside our civilization has taken a giant step backwards. I think it's time for people to reflect on their behavior and make changes.

Although it's sad, it isn't anything new. Every year there is some type of injury related to Black Friday. Over merchandise savings. Sad indeed. I think they need to cancel the event and have a random sale. That way it will lesson the chance of individuals getting hurt. If a shopper just happen to be in the store when the sale savings take place, then good for them. Saving 75 percent or 99 percent just isn't worth it. Black Friday is supposed to be about merchants going in the black the day after Thanksgiving discounting merchandise. It still has a name that's fitting. A dreadful day of chance trying to save on holiday shopping. Is it worth it? NEVER.

Yes, unfortunately there have always been injuries, just never heard of deaths before. Looks like Black Friday is getting a double meaning. I rather stay at home and wait for the after Christmas deals.

I don't think Black friday is something people should kill over for. That was an awful thing that happened to that walmart employee. I have a friend that works at walmart and just the thought of him getting trampled over like that scares me. Black Friday is a really good thing for early birds but thats not something that people should make a big deal about over an innocent man. I think some people have lost the spirit of shopping. Especially when the holidays are starting, i hope these things don't continue to happen. It would be a shame to see so many people get hurt and not have the courtesy to help them after just running them over because there too busy trying to get something cheap. I think those kind of people should be ashamed of themselves for trying to treat others like that. What happened to "treat others the way you would want to be treated". I guess some people are meant to act this way because they have no heart and don't care. I think it is sickining to live that kind of life. Wouldn't anybody agree? The walmart guy was just working his shift and thats how people treat him. I hope he gets a raise for his work and several apologies.

He was a big guy to run over, too. Some people just act like animals on a hunt for prey. I don't think it's worth it. Every year there are injuries, this year somebody had to die.

Black Friday has always been crazy. I'm sure more people were out to get a bargain this year, although it seems they were still cautious with the money they spent. Unfortunately, each store only has a limited number of the bargain items in stock. That's why people try to be the first inside to grab it. I have never been crazy enough to be in the front at any sale. The risk of injury is just not worth it.

Because those people are a bunch of animals. I hope when the police look over the store's videos they find out which people were involved and arrest they all. All this just to buy something on sale, shame on them all.

I heard they are looking for witnesses to find those particular shoppers. This is really not worth the couple of dollars they will save. It really is a shame.

I read that story, it's just awful. The article I read said that shoppers were arguing when told to leave without shopping so that the police could do what they needed to do. Just awful that a family will be without their son/father/brother this year because people are so selfish & thoughtless.

Isn't it terrible? What happened to us as a society, if we selfishly insist on getting our bargain instead of honoring the fact that something terrible happened? I wouldn't have been able to shop anymore. I would have been too shocked. It's like a pack of wolves.

Hi there Jonesy!
That's really scary and sad. Maybe now that things like that happened, more people will be discouraged to shop during those times. I really hope that no similar event will take place in the future. Maybe there should be a crowd control team or something like that.

I think, if they have to bring in security for crowd control, it won't be worth it anymore for the stores to offer such discounts. Isn't it crazy? I only went Black Friday shopping once in my life but arrived about half an hour after the store opened. It was full, but most people were already in line at the cash register. It was rather civilized. I don't think I'll ever be in the front of the crowd to go for a bargain. It's not worth it.

They don't care about anybody but themselves, we live in a "ME" generation. You Tube, My Space, My Lot, Face Book, but alas nobody will do anything about it.

Yes, you are right. It's really sad that we have such utter disregard for other people, especially their lives.

Black friday is ridulus. They need to do something about the violence thats taking place or stop having it. There is no sense in senseless acts of violence so thiongs r on sale so what. Do we need to hurt people to get savings. They need to get security there and open three doors and have security standing and watching as they come through the doors and make them walk. This is just stores trying trying to make a frenzy out of making money thats it. Ask yourself is it really worth all these people getting hurt?

Sounds more like freaky friday than black friday, but as far as I understand it has always been a dangerous day to shop. I have a story about a friend of mine that actually camped out one thanksgiving to get a big screen television. when the store opened she and her husband ran to the TV's just in time to get the last one. Her husband turned around and was punched in the face. The man that punched him, had also camped out, and claimed he had been there an hour before my friend so he deserved the TV. It turned into a fist fight. While the men were duking it out, she pushed the TV up front and bought it. I'm happy for her, but kind of sorry for the guy that camped out only to get a couple of black eyes for his trouble.

OMG, that is just crazy! Good for your friend to quietly go and purchase it while the men fought it out.. but still, the insanity of it all! I don't think I would ever camp outside the store in anticipation of getting a non-essential item a bit cheaper. I'd rather go without. Well, your friends now have a story to tell;)
