I am starting a diet and exercise program in December. I need to lose about 100 pounds in five months. That is by the end of April. Any ideas? I plan to eat alot of brown rice and vegetables, drink alot of water, maybe even a lemonade detox, and green tea also. I have a membership at an athletic club and will be going 3-4 times a week for 1-3 hours each time. I hope to lose atleast 10 pounds a week in the first few weeks. Oh, and alot of apples and grapefruit. Any ideas on things I could add? What about my exercises? Any certain ones I should focus on for tummy fat losing and tightening and flattening help? Thanks ahead of time.

I think you should go to the gym and exercise and ask the gym instructors to help you lose weight. I think 100 pounds is a lot and during holidays I tend to eat a lot so I hope you would not be starving yourself. My officemate who is currently enrolled in a gym just lost 10 pounds for more than a month I think (because we were eating during breaks). There are certain exercise that help flatten you tummy. I know there are some medicine that can help but I think you should go see a doctor on these matters (which I think you are planning base on your other response). Best of luck to you.

Well I agree that it is not healthy to try and lose so much weight at one time. But if you insist, some ways to do so is to cut down on carbs such as bread, sugary sweets, etc. Each lots of chicken, fish, and veggies. Of course as you said, drink lots of water, no sodas. Try adding more exercising. You said that you will be the gym for a total of about 10 to 12 hours each week. During the day you can also walk at work, a lot of my coworkers do this. Take the stairs instead of the elevators things of that nature. The way I see it is that one of the best way to go is to cut carbs out of your diet. Carbs turn to sugar and sugar to fat = weight gain. Make sure you continue to eat 3 meals a day, especially breakfast. A good breakfast will fuel you for the rest of the day and you will not be as hungry. Stay hyrated. I know people will criticize your choice of how you much weight you want to lose in a short period of time, but I do commend you for going about this the right way, through diet and exercise. Things I suggest you stay away from is diet pills and gastric operations (gastric bypass or the lap band procedure). I say this for 2 reasons: 1. Diet pills affect people in different ways. I have had an experience where I felt like my heart was beating out of my chest, so I stopped using them. 2. Gastric surgery sounds good, but I have seen people with horrible side effects. My co-worker had the lap band procedure done over the summer 2008. It is now going into december and she looks like she lost close to 80 pound in these past 4-5 months. She looks so bad. She is still losing, tremendously. I just hope she doesn't become anorexic.

Just stay away from sugar and white breads and rice . whole grain and wheat everyting . and fill up too on foods that are super low in cals . veggies and fruit ! lean meats only like chicken and turkey burgers and lean beef too . id say lift weights to tone arms. and walk for fun

I think you should try to lose weight by working out more and doing more things around the house. That is what i always do. I try to keep my self busy and make sure i use almost every part of my body to ensure I lose weight. I also try to replace certain foods for water. I do weight lifting a little when i have time and try to do it with a friend so it feels like a everyday thing you would with your friend(s) Some say the best way to lose weight is to try to fast but i think that is a bad idea because after fasting, you get even more hungrier and end up gaining all the weight lost and more. I would try to replace ice cream and desserts and heavy calorie stuff with fruits except replacing pasta becasue is good.........mmmmmmmmmmm......yummy.........sorry........got hungy. The excercises i would do are the treadmill and weightlifting. But i think in order to lose weight i would do mostly crunches, push up, walking, running and playing lots of sports. I think these things will help.

Yes, I have been reading up on the activity of leptin and I certainly don't want to starve myself. I will be doing the same- treadmill and weightlifting. Walking is a great exercise. Thanks for your input.

Okay as the others said it is unhealthy to loose that much that fast, but because I am planning to do exactly the same thing although in a little different way, I'll tell you what you can do okay, I know it sounds hypocritial of me to tell you it is unhealthy then tell you I plan on doing it anyway, but the thing about it is I need to loose the weight and the one to two pound weight loss things don't seem to work very well for me.
So here is what I would suggest, cut out the rice if at all possible (I gained weight eatting rice, not the effect I was looking for at the time, if you must eat rice make sure you only eat a small portion size.
Lots of leafy vegetables, (lettuce, spinach, cabbage, etc) stay clear of potatoes,
lots of garden salads, fruits are good but in moderation, most fruits can add a lot of calories before you know it,
I would suggest finding a menu you personally can live with and use portion sizes, my menu will be as follows the same every day to make it easy,
oatmeal with fruit for breakfast, (the kind of oatmeal, and real fruit like strawberries or bannanas or peaches, lots of ginger and cinnamon and a touch of real butter, then either a tiny bit of honey or just a touch of brown sugar, (not a lot)
Hot tea, with milk and sugar,
lunch
tuna sandwish (one) (tuna drained mixed with a low calorie mayonaise with diced onions and black olives, a garden salad (basically lettuce and tomatoe, if the tomatoes are too high just lettuce) maybe some black olives, and fetta cheese, a little salad dressing on the side.
either hot tea or iced tea
Supper
one salmon filet, with veg, (broccolli, carrots, mushrooms, caulifour all mixed together about one of veg total) one orange if the oranges don't cost too much.
then hot tea or iced tea
then before breakfast every day two glasses of ice cold water, (8 ounce glasses measures as I hate the taste of water lol)
then after breakfast 2 more 8 ounce glasses of water,
before and after each meal two glasses of water measured out cold water,
then hot tea through out the day maybe five cups or so a day,
now for the exercise part, I personally plan to go walking one to two miles perday on a measured track, then I also plan on doing all the regular stretches that I used to do before I got so fat, I figure I'll start out with twenty-five of each exercise and work towards a goal of a hundred reps of each exercise,
I also plan to jump rope several times per day, and use a glider that I have several times per day, also use a step machine a few times a day (at least three times a day)
I also plan to working up to walking five miles per day.
At one time I was very thin and I exercised a lot but somewhere along the way I stopped exercising and gained a whole lot of weight. Not a good thing, and I am so tired of being so fat it is not funny especially when I know that the only thing causing me to stay so fat is I don't exercise and I rarely if ever drink water, so I am going to fix that, but it will be hard.
Becareful if your going to attempt to do what I am attempting because I am pretty certain anyone with any medical training whatsoever will say this is not good idea, but on the other hand I say it's not a good idea to be continually stressed about how much I weight and I weigh way more than I need to be weighing a loss of a hundred pounds will place me with in the high end of normal for my height, but I want to be back to size I used to be and I would like to do that by April or May if possible or at least well on my way to reach that goal.
If you do not work outside the home you can spend more time exercising than someone who also has to work outside the home.
I also plan to make sure I am using portion sizes, and some exercises I will do later I won't do until after I have spent a couple or weeks or so building up my walking speed, I want to be at five miles a day walking (speed walking so that I burn more calories) I also plan to jump rope as soon as I feel like I can safely. I think I need to loose at least thirty pounds before I start with the jumprope, I used to love to jumprope, (I also need to buy some shoes so I can jumprope easier)
Anyway, I hope this was not more information than you bargained for lol, oh another thing I have been doing is going on different sites and reading about people who have lost a hundred pounds or more so I can see what they did so maybe I can get some helpful ideas.
Just be careful as your working towards your goal and stop exercising if you feel dizzy or lightheaded or happen to get chest pains, be careful and maybe you'll be able to reach your goals.
Lots of walking, situp, jumprope, jumping jacks, stretches etc and you should reach your goals in time barring any medical problems or set backs. I believe it is possible. Just be careful okay
Oh, and walking tightens and tones everything so that is a good one to do every day okay.

I applaud your enthusiasm. Losing weight is a good idea. You should know that in order to lose just 10 lbs of fat, you would have to consume 35,000 (yes thousand) less calories than your body can use. I don't mean to bring you down, but ten pounds a week is really not reasonable because although you may lose some fat...you will also be losing water, intestinal weight, and muscle. Muscle is your fat-burning metabolism, so you do not want to lose it. If you lose too much muscle, your metabolism will go down and eventually you will gain weight on a normal amount of food.
When you have 100lbs or more to lose, you will lose weight faster in the beginning. Try shooting for 2-3lbs a week and make sure to exercise, because that is the only proven way to keep weight off (except for surgery).
I suggest that you eat several small meals a day, exercise regularly (cardio and resistance training)...you don't have to do much to get good results if you do it right, so you may want to get a trainer, at least for a few sessions to get you started.
As far as which muscles to work out first...start with the larger muscles: Legs, back, chest, and abs. Those muscles will help you burn more calories all the time. You can get into the more specific exercises after you lose some of the weight.
Whatever you do, stay away from fad or low calorie diets and don't give up!
Also, you might want to try hypnosis to help keep you motivated. It does work.
Keep up the good work :)

Thank you so much!! You really have given me some much needed defined info here. Some very important things to keep in mind. I felt I would lose excess water and intestinal weight and so will lose alot more than 2 or so lb.s a week at least to begin with. I am not real energetic as yet so I think I will lose from not eating much to begin with too. Hypnosis, huh? Have heard about it. Thanks again.

Why do you want to lose 100 pounds in five months???
Do you think you're too fat or something others
That's ruthless to your health to lose that much weight in that short time
In my way I will try some exercise and diet,
Don't put too much press to yourself, that will make your body and heart tired

First of all... who told you you need to loss 100 pounds in five months? Because if someone TOLD you that.. they should lose their job.
It is NEVER safe to lose that much weight that quickly. The healthy way to lose weight is to only lose 1-2 pounds per week. Seriously that is the healthy way.
I'm worried that if you lose weight at the rate you want is just going to lead to gaining the weight back on, possibly a complication with your heart from losing weight so fast, etc.
I am not a fan of any kind of detox such as your lemonade and green tea detox ideas.
These ways of weight loss won't lead to WEIGHT MANAGEMENT!! And ultimately in life that's what you and everyone needs.
If you want to talk more about this we can. I'm finishing up getting my Masters in Nutrition and will definitely help you along your way.

I am the one telling me that. I feel that I will lose more than the 1-2 pounds a week during detox and enitially anyway. What ever amount will be great! I have a very strong heart. The detox is for cleansing purposes. Close friends have used the lemonade detox and sware by it. The green tea is to drink and for appetite suppressant purposes. Not using them for weight management but for cleansing!

I just have a suggestion as far as a dietary plan to make sure you don't gain any weight you lose right back. Brown rice, vegetables and a lot of water are very good ideas but make sure that you don't over do it. Making sure to also incorporate fruits and some sort of protein is also very important. If you choose not to eat meat, beans, nuts, fish, eggs, and lentils are all good sources of protein. The most important thing is to choose a dietary plan that you will be able to stick to long term, not just until you lose the amount of weight you're looking to lose. If you choose a dietary plan that is filled with things that you don't actually enjoy eating it can be very hard to stick to and you will be much more likely to go back to any bad eating habits you have and all your hard work will be for nothing. Also, eating small amounts through out the day of fruits, vegetables, etc. will help you to keep from overindulging during meals. Believe it or not, [healthy] snacking throughout the day is actually a very important part of a healthy diet. Hope this helps!

I appreciate your input. I think everything in moderation is a good plan. I have heard that some diet plans say the brown rice should be in moderation so will look at that. I believe in small snack/meals so will be doing that. Thanks.

iam a dr.sans ,why r u so hurrying to decrease ur weight extremely fast,is there any strong reason,if it is ur personal then ok.i want to give u a suggestion any one should not loose wt more than 10mpounds a month.if u loose more than that ina month u will pay for it as a grave danger to ur health.so start slowly to loose weight make it between 8- 10 pounds a month.u will maintain a steady wt loss not rapid.
some things to do for wt loss
expend more calories than u gain by food.a healthy man wans 2400kcal a day and 1g per kg body weight of protein for a day, maintain this protein balance.and split off the 2400 kcal of energy into necessary cabohydrates and very less to fats.if u loose wt so rapid along with ur body fat stores ,protein will also be utilised to maintain energy output,as u know proteins are the building blocks of our body.they are of two types structural proteins(carriers, ceii membranes, cell organelles),functional proteins(enzymes, hormones, immunoglobulins, etc)the proteins required for the synthesis of this will divert to energy expenditure,at last u will face a disaster.
and ur diet plan is good maintain fresh fruits and vegetables, avoid fats, take as much as proteins ,it will be more in egg white and pulses.ok

I know of a sure way to lose weight. I know it will work because it did work for me. But I have to warn you that it is really difficult and that it takes a lot of discipline. Almost two months ago I found out that I had elevated triglycerides. My doctor gave me a diet guide which I tried to follow strictly. There were three food groups on the guide, the 'not allowed', the 'allowed but in moderation' and the 'no limit'. As anyone would suspect, the 'not allowed' food are those that are high in cholesterol such as red meat, nuts, chicken skin, fast food, etc. The 'allowed but in moderation' are chicken meat, egg (max of 3/week), etc. The 'no limit' food group, on the other hand, includes bread, beans, tuna, etc. I was also recommeded to exercise everyday even for just 15-20 mins a day because I needed to sweat it out. But because I am one lazy girl, I resort to sauna instead. I would suggest that you go see a doctor who can advise you on what kind of diet to take or what kind of approach is appropriate for your condition. Seeing a doctor is best because only then would your health conditions be considered. And the list of the food groups I mentioned above is really long so I can't post it here. But if you will see a doctor I'm sure he can advise you properly. Good luck!

Rice is not good for you to eat if you are trying to loose weight. I lost most of my weight using the Weight Watchers system. It is the old point system and they let you know which point value you would be in considering your height and weight and any conditions you may have. It really works. I lost a total of 83 lbs. It took me two and a half year because crash diets do not work. You have to adjust your way of eating. Rice is very high in points. You would have to only have 1/4 or 1/2 cup of rice and then lots of vegies. With Weight Watchers you are never hungry you adjust your eating to several small maeals a day instead of 3 bigger meals. If you crash diet your body will hold on to the weight. It is a defense system we just have in our bodies. The body says I'm being starved so I have to hold on to everything so I don't die. It sounds wiere but that is what happens. They call it starvation mode. I wish you well in your project. When I started on my own I cut the calories, fats, sodium, and carbs. I drank alot more water and since I was a dancer in my younger years I used my warm up routine to work the body. I hadn't used my tummy muscles for some time so even though nothing moved at first, I would suck it in as much as I could and hold it. Then push out and hold it . Pretty soon I could see that the muscles were working again. For me it was baby steps and pretty soon there were results I was happy about.

hi! i think exercise is still be the best way to maintain and lose weight. discipline over food intake also is another important factor for a successful lose weight system. if you can't control the amount of food and you do exercise, the chances that you lose weight is slow or even not won't change. but for sure your you will feel stronger since you do exercise.
i can suggest you try to include in your weight loss program a weight loss supplement. you can get a free trial in my online store for free and it's pure herbal and safe to use (doesn't contain PPA). what it does is it helps you burn more calories even without changing the amount of food you take with a little exercise. if you're interested, give it a try and besides it's free to avail one and it's for limited time offer only. check my profile page here in mylot and see shopbotica banner.
