I agree that linux is more secure but that windows is more user friendly. Though , currently there has been a lot of good distributions that are addressing the user-friendliness of ubuntu, One of the things i hate about windows is the number of viruses in the windows world. When i was still using windows, i had to reformat every few months, despite having a very good antivirus. With linux i dont have that problem since its a pretty well secured systen

Well i like windows more as it is more user friendly and it more popular throughout the world. But these things generally depend on personal prferences and vary from person to person

Although this type of questions are already answered in this website, I'll tell you the basic difference in the two operating systems. The first major difference which will notice as the user is that Linux is a very stable operating system and I have never seen it crash suddenly. But on the other hand windows is a bit unstable and crash a lot if something unusual is done. This is something which I like a lot about that particular operating system.
The licensing is one big advantage of Linux which you don't get rid windows because they have to buy it with a very heavy price. And also being in open source operating system it is very developed by a lot of developers and that is the reason it has so much to offer you. Briers windows is not an open source software and so the modifications, the limited to what Microsoft does it.

I personally feel that Linux is the best in terms of security. Though Windows Vista has better security, Linux are more better. I personal recommendation would be Ubuntu. And whats more? Linux are always free and available Open-Source..!
Cheers!

Well although I have been a long time advocate of linux I'm still no expert on it, but I am a linux user. My ASUS EEE PC came with linux preloaded and it works very nicely for me, I had no trouble at all making the switch. For me most of what I do on the computer is online in Firefox anyway so I hardly even notice what operating system I am using once I get going. A big advantage of Linux is that it's very secure, and there are fewer pieces of malware written for it anyway because it's not as popular as Windows.
