Baby Formula Scare

To all my fellow formula feeding moms out there, how are you coping witht he reports of melamine being found in infant formula? The three brands are Enfamil, Similac, and Nestle, which all come from companies that make 90% of formula. I for one, am appalled by the lack of information provided and the lack of action by the FDA. Because they only found trace amounts, the FDA refuses to recall any of the formulas. My daughter was drinking Enfamil AR but now we are switching to Parent's Choice. My pediatrician was not even aware of the situation and told me that a little won't hurt them. Melamine is poisonious to babies, and in small amounts can cause kidney stones. In larger amounts, it can be fatal. So would you trust a little bit in your child's formula? I say no way!

I don't have any babies any more but I find this situation appalling. I was reading that as long as a formula doesn't have cyanuric acid, a chemical relative too it is safe. In my opinion it a formula has either in it it it's not safe. Our babies are too fragile to take any chances. Its getting harder and harder to trust the FDA. Their standards just aren't high enough when it comes to our babies and children. I'll bet their babies or grandbabies aren't getting any formula with any melamine or cyaniric in it.

I found out, to my relief, that Enfamil was not contaminated. In fact, mead Johnson has run thier own tests multiple times to prove it, and the FDA has said it will issue a statement about its mistake and apologize.

I don't think that any thing should be in any of our food but the FDA does have expectable levels of bad stuff.

I go in for my c-section tomorrow. I plan on bre*ast feeding. But with my daughter Milk dried up after 7 weeks. So I will be very careful. I am aware of the formula problem.

Although I don't have children, if I did this would really be a cause of concern for me. I can't understand how they won't recall the formula even if there's even a little in it. Not long ago it was in all the headlines about all the babies over in Japan and such that were dying b/c of this same stuff. I wouldn't risk my childs health regardless of what the FDA says.
