I am trying to find a good place to take my kids for vacation. They are two girls and they are five and about to be three years old. We live in Arkansas and we wnat to stay within the US. I want to take them somewhere that is fun for them and us and has something for everyone. I was hoping someone would have some ideas of things to do from where they are from. We are looking at going in late MArch or early April so we have been trying to get it all planned and set up so we don't have to rush at the last minute. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hhmmmm.. a 5 year old and a three year old.. I usually would ask the parents to give their input about what interests them. In your case any choice that you make for a vaca is going to have to accomodate the attention spans and the stamina of your daughters. That being said, what would satisfy you as parents (as far as a vacation) and certainly if your daughters have any interests set at this tender age - consider that. For us, our four children were all under 5 years old at one point. We enjoyed controlled environments. Places with playgrounds or going on short hikes, gave the same fun and refreshing that a vacation should.

Thank you for your suggestion. At this point everything just about interests them and they are very easy to travel with so that always helps out. They are very outgoing and love being outdoors. I have taken them to the trails once but I might take them back now. It would be good for us all!!

Just a few words about Disney. Disney is wonderful for kids at the right age. I had an opportunity to take my four children to Disney World. I anticipated that my oldest, who was 11 and my 9-year-old would like it. I expected my 6-year-old twin daughters to be ecstatic! They were age 6.
To my great surprize, my 9-year-old LOVED the whole experience. My young daughters were very suspect. My 11 year old had his moments of being intrigued. Definitely Disney is a charm. And even though we carefully meted out measured doses of park visits per day, the kids seemed happiest swimming and playing together with other children at the hotel pool. So my recommendation is to balance the excitement and ultra stimulous of Disney with some recoup time. The Disney park passes are designed in this way so that you can purchase a type of pass that lets you come and go several times a day to one or more of their parks.
And a must for a Disney trip is flexibility in your day's scheduling. At the very least you will encounter Disney's magical serendipity.

Hi! I live in Philadelphia, and if you like historical places, then this is the place to be. I recently visited Washington D.C. and went on a White House tour. It was actually fun. We also went all the way up to the Washington Memorial, and visited the National Art Gallery. There are many places there for the kids, too. If you want a different-looking place where the kids will surely enjoy, you can go to Key West, Florida.
Happy myLotting!

Thank you so much for the response. Washington D.C. would be a great place for my kids to get to go see. They could learn a lot while we were there. I will have to look up more about it and see what all is available there. Thanks again

My fiance and I live in a small town, the county is small as well. We enjoy the country air and all. I think the best place might be the mountains. Something with a lot of scenery, and a lot of history. I wish I could say more.

We live in a very small town in the country till we moved a few months ago but the town we live in is still small but it is right by all the bigger towns. We are hoping to go to colorado in the coming months and I am sure that the kids will enjoy the mountains and all the snow!! Thanks for the response

One thing I can think of right now – for myself – is home. I’ve been away from home since I don’t know when because I work out of town and I definitely miss home. Good thing, I’m on a leave and I’m spending the Holidays with my family back there.
If you’re living at “home”, beach house is the beach thing I can think of right now. We do have the right weather here right now, maybe because it’s Christmas time (I hope there too) it’s nice to stay in front of a beach – not too sunny, not too rainy.
