Well, I am not too sure about if Norton does a good job in keep out virus, but it is sure irritating. It is constantly reminding you to backup and on your firewall, and it is much worst than window xp/vista pop-ups.
The worst part is when your subscription ends, and the stupid pop-up will remind you to renew your subscription. Even when I am playing my game, it will suddenly switch to the Norton pop-up, interrupting your game. Grhhhh....

no i dont like norton. Consumes more resources, and have problems while uninstalling it(sometimes). My friend had norton in is system and net was not working for him. He uninstalled it and try using net. It worked, some how the norton blocked the net and didnt allow him to browse net..i will give -ve points for it

Norton is fine, but not my choice. It consumes a lot of process utilization. I prefer Mcaffe (but not upto the mark) and Kaspersky(good to some extent).
I would advice using anti-spyware tools like spybot or adaware along with anti-virus tools to protect your system better. use of free firewall software like zone alarm is also recommended.

I agree that it consumes alot of process utilization. Freewares are also getting better. Thanks for your response!

If you ask people online, most people say it's really bad. I bought this laptop on ebay and it has norton on it. I don't like it. What's worse, I decided to take it off and put trend micro and can't. It says to completly remove Norton from your computer, insertr the disk. Well, because I got this laptop from ebay, the disk didn't come with it.

We don't use that anymore. There are some others you can try. McCafee is good. So is AVG. And there are free versions to try.

I don't know any numbers off the top of my head, but despite being very popular I know that Norton hasn't performed very well in tests. I would suggest switching to Avira Antivir, which is free and has worked very well for me. It beat out many commercial and free pieces of antivirus software in independent tests, and I have confirmed that it does a great job of finding the viruses.

we got a new comp with XP on it, and i tried numerous times to download AVG or something like it, but since we are still on dial-up it was taking HOURS and then the stupid file would be corrupt. was driving me nuts for about 3 days!
so i gave in and bought the Norton Anti-Virus on disc. i must say that its "saved" me at least 3 times from things being downloaded in the background, and it hasnt given me any prompts to back my system up etc. its been really great so far!
we still have about 100 days left of the subscription, so i guess i will see what happens when it does run out lol!
