Would you like a skunk for a pet?

Skunks are harmless creatures. They use their wild smell to protect themselves. In this animal lover world where people raise different kinds of animals I wonder if how many are raising skunks? Would you consider to have one?

Yeah I would love to have one, if the stink glands were removed of course. My boyfriend really wants one he finds them to be very adorable. I'd like to have all types of wild animals.

Somebody actually gave it to my friend. I just wondered how they take away the stink glands.;-)

I'm not a 100% sure, my boyfriend was telling me about it, I know vets do it but it probably cost alot of money since its such a stinky process. Hmm, now I'm curious, I'm sure if we looked it up we'd find something about it.

Wait a second... she has a skunk that still has stink glands, that'd be scary and probably stinky...

Hello Hibiscus_mel, I think skunks can be possible as potential pets. The reason I say this is that, for people who really have and keep skunks in their homes, they have them go through a safe procedure in order to get their stink glands removed, so there is no more stinky sprays in your face. Of course, this leaves them defenseless but if as long as your home is in a safe environment where the skunk will not get hurt by other animals, it's okay.

I see. Well as a precaution, if I ever got one I would actually have them remove it, since animals in general can be wary of people they've never seen before, and people who are not used to seeing skunks might be afraid and unintentionally scare them which can turn out to be a mess.

My friend didn't remove any glands from her pet. She just reminded my son never to scare it so that it will not spray on him. Ferrets are a little stinky too but Iwas able to hold it in my hand.

I wonder if anyone has had one as a pet, I guess they could be good so lond as they didn't keep spraying you, I guess they wouldn't if they weren't frightened of you, I never thought people could have ferrets as my dad used to breed them and they were vicious but people do have them so I guess anything is possible.

Can you imagine that my friend has a skunk right next to his ferret? ;-) She placed it in one separate room. She asked me if I would like to see her smelly friends.

Not me. I think wild animals should stay in the wild. That is where they are meant to be. They can spray that smell when they are scared too. ANd it would never come out of your home.

haha, You can get the stink glands removed then after that there isn't much difference from a cat and the skunk. Besides we were once wild animals I guess now you can say we're 'tamed' lol..

I wouldn't because they are wild animals. But my grandmother had one with the stink glands removed when she was little. They found Stripe when she was a baby and abandoned so they took her in. Later on in life they took in an abandoned raccoon and she has all sorts of stories about that creature that make me laugh so hard tears come! Raccoons dont have saliva so they have to wash everything before they eat it. They would give the raccoon sugar cubes that would dissolve in the water...poor thing! lol
