One of the things that I had always enjoyed doing is reading books. And one of the things that makes me feel good is a good book from a thrift shop.
I recently bought Helen Fielding's Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination.. and I can say that I enjoyed it. It has the humor and touch of Bridget Jones Diary [which I also liked]. It's light and funny. Feel-good type of books. It's for someone who wants quality yet easy to read books.
By the way, I was able to buy it for only 13cents.. Really cheap:)
If you can suggest a good book, I would really appreciate it. I'll look for it next time I visit the bookstore [a.k.a thrift shop]:)

Hm... one of the books that greatly changed my point of view in life is the wonderful book written by Mitch Albom, Tuesdays with Morrie. It really is a very inspirational book. It's a book that talks about someone who caught a very deadly illness and how he lives his life, with his student- whom he haven't heard of since the last 16 years since that student graduated- Mitch, the author himself. I recommend all of you to read this book, as not only did it changed my point of view in life, but also changed how I live. This is book really is a must-read.

I read that too. It was so touching.. It's effect on me is some kind of personal because I am also a teacher. And it every teacher's dream to have some kind of influence to his/her student just like that of Morrie's. What about Albom's other book, "Five People You Meet in Heaven?" Have you read that too? It is also nice..

Nope, I haven't read that yet but I'm planning to. Now, I must first finish the book I currently am reading... And it's kinda thick, too...

One great book to read that you can probably find in a thrift shop is confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. It is a lot like Bridget Jones Diary in that it is british and considered chick lit. It was really funny and I thought that the main character was relateable and endearing.

I found it at the library and I also found out that Sophie Kinsella wrote three more books about the main character of that book. I haven't read all of those yet, but since I liked the first one I am sure that I will enjoy the rest. Some other books by Sophie Kinsella that I have really really enjoyed are Remember Me and Can You Keep a Secret. I would definitely recoment those as well.

Yeah, I saw it already in a bookstore but it's quite expensive that's why I haven't bought it yet. But I've read the review of that book and it seems something I would really like.. I hope to find it in a thrift shop one of these days. I'm excited to read it:) Thanks for the feedback:)

Hi, LetterWriter. Welcome to myLot.
What a great deal you found on those books. I love to find books at a good price as well. My favorite place to shop is at Half Priced Bookstores. I can't think of a must read book at the moment. But I am going to look into the ones you meantioned.

The ones I had mentioned are for easy, light reading only. If you're into serious stuff, they won't interest you, though.
I have the chance to read a variety of books. But right now, I just prefer easy reading since I'm just doing it as I take care of my two kids.
It's quite hard for me to read Shakespeare while I act as a referee to my kids:)
If you can suggest other books of the same nature [light and easy reading], please do so. Thanks :)

I can completely understand needing things to read while dealing with the kids.
I just read a young adult novel that was fabulous (and it has been made into a movie... currently in theaters.
"The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" by John Boyne. So good!

Actually I have also read a lot of young adult books this past few years. Before I had children, I used to do it for my tutees [for book reviews]. I don't do their reviews but I still have to know the book to be able to critique what they have done so I must read. Then when I had kids, I read it to them. They enjoy Roald Dahl's books:)

What a great deal you got! Rather than recommend a specific book, I'll recommend some authors. I like Luanne Rice for literature, Agatha Christie for good old fashioned whodunits, and Janet Evanovich for humerous mystery novels. Mystery novels are my books of choice. I think that you would enjoy books by any of the above authors.

It's just second hand, though. But it is still in good quality. As I've always told my kids, good books don't grow old:) I'll try to search the authors you recommended. Thanks:)

I have read Alcott and Austen's books too. Some were required at school for book report. But most of them, I just read because I was interested. I liked Little Women:) And I like books with women writers better:)
I had also watched the movie versions. But I like the books better.
I also enjoy reading magazines. I used to have subscription when I was still single, but now that I'm a mom I just buy if it's really worth it. Most of the time I buy back issues [it's cheaper]. Or I just do my reading online.
Thanks for sharing:)
