In the current economy I was wondering how many of you did the day after Thanksgiving shopping? This is the first time in 14 years I wasn't able to go. There just wasn't enough money this year. Were the deals better than in previous years? Did you notice more or less people out? Please let me know your experiences, it's something I really missed this year!!!

I live in Canada so we don't have a Black Friday, and our Thanksgiving is in October. The only thing close to Black Friday that we have is our Boxing Day sales which takes place the day after Christmas! On December 26th you can get a TON of deals, especially on Christmas stuff.

The only things I have really ever gone to get the day after Christmas is cards dirt cheap for the next year, ornaments that are on dirt cheap, and left over Christmas chocolate that didn't sell before Christmas!!

That's a bummer but I guess you could shop for Christmas the next year and get some of those good deals. Have you ever done that?

Yes, I went out and bought myself a sewing machine and a clothes steamer!! This is my first time to experience shopping on a black friday, and it's been fun. I went with my mother and sister-in-law, she bought a machine too. It's 40% off than its original price so it really is a great buy. And yes I noticed, there's not much traffic on the road, way different than I have anticipated. Maybe there's really less people shopping out there because of the economy. We only went to one store though, we spent a lot of time there that we never thought of going anywhere else. We're all tired. A lot of people on Hancock's, and there's even a News crew shooting a Thanksgiving report! it's cool. I missed watching the news that night though, I could have seen myself on tv!!

I'm glad you had a good time! There's always been some incredible deals on that day. Are you planning on doing it next year too?

I don't usually shop on Black Friday, but, even if I DID want to go, I had to work so I wouldn't have been able to make it. I work at a bank and was expecting it to be crazy that day. Most people panic when the bank is closed one day and then the next day usually all hell breaks loose, but it wasn't too bad. I would say it was steady if not slow for a Friday, so I was shocked!
My cash is less this year also. I just had to pick up a second job, so I have a full-time job as well as a part-time job now. Hopefully I will be able to buy a few small things for my loved ones, but I am going to be focusing mostly on paying down some bills rather than creating MORE debt!
Best wishes. Enjoy your holidays!

I didn't get to go out and shop. In fact the chain I work for didn't even allow me to buy any of the early bird specials! I had my son ride in with me at 4:30 (I had to be there at 5 to change sale signs) so he could stand in line to get one of the 7 HP laptop computers that sold for $400. Even getting there that early he was #2 in line and the store didn't open until 6. This is the first year in better than 10 that we had the money saved up to take advantage of the deals. I ended up working 11 hours and was too tired to go anywhere but home by the time I got out of work.
