I seem to be losing more hair now

Ever since I donated my hair a few weeks ago, I seem to be losing a lot more of what I have left in the shower. It used to be that there would only be a few strands in the drain, but now it's enough to clog it up a bit. I don't know if they're all falling out in the shower and not anywhere else, or if they're falling out everywhere more than they were. I have tons of hair, so it's not like I think I'm going to go bald. But I think it's strange that I am losing so much hair in the shower now.

I kept letting my hair grow very long, the whole way down my back. Once I had at least 10 inches of it to cut off, I had it cut so I can send it to Locks of Love. This organization takes hair and makes wigs out of it to give to children who are undergoing cancer treatment. Since all the hair is donated to them through people cutting at least 10 inches of it off, they don't charge anything for the kids wigs.
I've done this twice and plan to keep doing it as long as I have hair :)
For some reason though, this time it seems like more of my hair is falling out that I noticed before. I think it might be staying in the rest of the day and just falling out in the shower. When my hair was long it would always be falling out all over everything.

Well, that makes sense, it fell out more when it was longer because there was more of it to get caught on things and more gravity to pull it down. At first I did not understand why the lenghth would make any difference at all.

Hey reiny~I have been lousy lots of my hair and I don't have
alot of hair to lose! It sometimes happens at certain times
of the growth season. I have been losing mine in clumps which
is really scary because my hair is very thin and I have some
bald spots. It really freaks me out. I also have alot of stress.
I have actually gone to the dermatologist from time to time to
have it checked and she said it was nothing to worry about. I
am always filling up the drain with hair. But, when I run my
fingers through my hair I get a hand full! At least you have
alot of hair so it doesn't matter to you! But, it is a normal
thing! Cutting hair is good for hair so it definitely is nothing
to be concerned about. What you did will actually stimulate
the growth.

That's a drag! I do have tons of hair, and my brush has always been full every couple days. I think that I'm not losing as much hair during the day so it's all coming out in the shower... I have no clue, but I am going to keep an eye on it.

I just read an article that says thyroid, low iron levels and stress can all be a cause for hair loss. It also says that we typically lose 100 hairs a day. Here is a link if you'd like to check it out.

I think I'm losing all 100 in the shower... I haven't seen any errant strands anywhere else, and I usually pick them off of me in droves.

That is odd. It is more usual to lose hair faster in the summer months. Have you changed shampoo or anything like that? Are you eating healthy and getting plenty of rest? I imagine it will turn around again, soon, but I agree that it is a strange happening.

Nah, haven't swicthed shampoo in over 2 years - this stuff is awesome. Everything's been about the same with me. The only thing I can think is that when it was longer it fell out all day long - I had strands of hair all over the place! Now I guess it's only falling out in the shower - at least that's what I'm hoping...

That's odd. It always seems to me like I must be going bald when I have long hair, but when I have short hair I don't seem to lose any hair at all. But how would I notice when it's so short?
Right now I can hardly wait to cut my hair. It is so tangled all the time and really hard to manage. I can hardly wait to donate it. But I want to let it get a bit longer first.

I was at that same point a few weeks ago, it was actaully getting on my nerves.
The only thing I can think of for losing my hair is that I'm not losing it all over the place during the day??? Maybe it just all comes loose while I'm washing instead of just all day long.... I still have plenty left (so far!) so it's not that big a deal yet. Just kinda strange.

I think the same amount of hair is falling out now as before, but it's not falling out all during the day, just in the shower... At least I hope that's what's happening!
