Kobe Bryant and Lebron James are the two best players in the NBA right now. Both there teams are on big winning streaks and both players are leading their teams to being playoff favorites. I think it is a close race but I like Lebron James better because Kobe has great players playing with him like Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, and Lamar Odom. On the other hand, it feels like Lebron is singlehandedly taking his team on his shoulder and every game he has 30+ points, incredible dunks and blocks. Lebron James is not overrated.

I'm not sure if you are watching 2008 NBA basketball or still the old 2003 rookie year footage of LeBron James. He's worth all that hype and he's been carrying the Cavaliers on his back ever since he's been there. He's really good, to the point that many teams are clearing salary cap space just for the chance to sign him up once he becomes available in 2010. Imagine, he's getting that attention almost two full years before he's even eligible. He's not overrated [which is a rarity in the NBA these days], and he has justified all the attention afforded his way.
Now, that does not mean that I think LeBron is currently the best player in the NBA. I still think that distinction goes to Kobe. He's grown up from that selfish one sided scorer that he used to be to being the main man focused more on winning rather than scoring more points than anyone. Look at the Lakers now, they are 14-1. It's no coincidence that it happened because Kobe started sticking to the plan that Phil Jackson has laid out for the team. He passes more, but when it comes down to the big moments, he is more than capable of carrying the team on his back.
As Kobe starts playing out his prime years, LeBron would rise up and eventually take his place. But for now, and at least a few more years, Kobe would be the man that everyone would be looking to surpass in the league.

Without a doubt it would be Kobe Bryant. As much as both are talented and well rounded players in terms of statistics, Kobe has accomplished more. He has appeared in 5 finals and won 3 of those. He has also become a regular season and all-star game MVP. Lebron on the other hand does not have as much hardware and has only played in one finals. Also Kobe is superior defensively to Lebron as he can really bottle up players. For evidence of this watch the recent China Olympics. He really locked up his defensive assignment. Also, the Lakers currently boast of the NBA's best record.
