Unknown referral?

I have a serious question to pose to those here whom have referrals. All of a sudden for some reason I got someone to sign up under me today. I have no idea how this came about at all. They are 28 and from Canada and I know noone in Canada and told noone of this site except my sis-in-law in Mich whom is well older that 28. Now I go to this members page and it shows pending friendship. I go to my friends page here and that member is not there to click on accept or deny. So how did someone suddenly show up on my list as a referral? How can I add them as a friend if I so wish? I am lost and cornfused beyond belief here. I don't have a link anywhere that I know of for peorple to sign up under me. I want to know whom this is and how they cam about signing up under me but I cannot PM then. Thanks in advance all. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Delete them, if they ever post anything, you'll still earn from them....

That is strange... I know that I put my ref links on my signatures in e-mails and I've gotten referrals from it being forwarded a million times - people don't delete all that stuff. As for not having them on your frieds list, that's so strange... Did you look in "Pending"?

I have at least 18 referrals and I can count on one hand the ones that are my friends..Problem that mylot has is when a referral signs up under you, they aotumatically get a friend request just for singing under your name..But that doesn't mean they will accept it..Some people prefer this, saying they don't think you should be an automatic friend to your upline and I totally disagree, if the referral doesn't want your friendship, then all they have to do is delete it. And having them a friend right away, you can contact them in case they are lost and confused..Some people are not familiar with computers, let alone forums..This was my first forum, but I push through and started learning..But if I had an upline I could talk to and get ideas from, I would have learned more quickly..Plus, the fact that only one with a pending request is active, the others probably gave up not knowing what this place was about.. So, as you can, this angers me, but only mylot can change it..

I have no idea but I have heard of this happening before at Mylot with other members. I have referrals too but I cannot PM them either to get them active because they joined and left.

Hi grandpa bob the only solution I can think of is that someone has read your profile and discussions and liked you and decided that you are worth to have his 25% of earnings and used you as a referral. You dont have to press the thing for friends when you use someone as a referal. I remember that I had to ask or tick something when I first loged in so I can be friends with the person who referred me if I make sence (I just woke up)

Read response number 6. It is from my sis-in-law in a sense. She gave my link to her friend. Then she signed up. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Sounds like some kind of system glitch. That's just plain odd. Did you check out anything else about her? Like does her user name appear anywhere else on the web? Or has she started any discussions so you can see what kind she writes? Heck - I don't even know WHERE we can go to see our referrals!!

There ya go, GB. Doesn't answer why YOU don't show a link to approve or reject at your end, but it does answer the rest. How about that.

That is very strange....I often wonder how people sign up to be my friend yet they have never posted to one of my discussions. So how do they find me? I don't have any that are referrals but just people who want a new friend.....strange!

That has been my pet peeve since the first time I got a referral who didn't accept my friend request..I have no idea how you got this referral, but when you do get one, unless they accept the friend request, which automatically shows up when they sign up under you, you will never be able to PM them..Now you might be able to communicate with them if you save their sight and keep an eye out for them starting a discussion or replying to one. But that won't mean they will because I did that, I found one of my referrals discussion and said something like, I have sent you a friend request..But either they didn't get the hint or they didn't want to be my friend.

it is weird , maybe these referrals are gift from mylot who has more than 10000 points. It doesn't sound rational but i couldn't think of something else :)

It is as puzzling to me as it is to you, I have never heard of something like that.. I hope someone can help you with this problem.. It would be great to have a referral to work under your name but under these circumstances, I am not sure about them.. I will read your responses in case this should ever happen to me.. Have a great day, Donna

Hi GRANDPA BOB, If they can do that to you, then they can do to anyne, surly there must be something Mylot can do to stop that happening, its scarey. Tamara

It sounds as though you have put your referral link ion a blog or on another site or maybe in emails. I know quite a few people who include the referral links immediately under their name/signature on emails. In a couple of instances they have long lines of their referral links and I suspect they are for every site they are a member of. It could of couse also be that someone you gave the referral link to in the past who did not join or stay here, has passed it on. Whatever has happened it is a good thing and now you need to hope that this new member becomes active here on myLot. At least you are experienced here on myLot Grandpa Bob, so you will be a great help to the newbie. Or at least you could be, if and when you are able to contact them by pm and I am sure that will happen as they joined under your referral link. As you are aware there are often discussions from newbies asking how they make money here etc. Good luck and I hope that your new referral is an active member of myLot.

I wish I could stumble across some unknown referrals myself Grandpa Bob! lol. I have never posted any links anywhere either and nor have I ever made any efforts to chase referrals really. I have told 7 people so far about the site and only one has ever continued to make any effort. I think that if you somehow referred them, then they should be in your friends list by default yes? This I am not sure about to be honest. I have not read through every response you have received on tis one yet, so someone may have already addressed this aspect. Anyways, I hope you get many more unknown referrals and if you get too many and it starts to intrigue you too much, then throw some of 'em my way!

That is really funny! I don't have any mystery referrals but that would freak me out a little bit if I didn't know who one of my referrals was. I am glad you got that resolved. You just never know who might join under you. I do believe the referral link is a generic one followed up by an equal sign and then your myLot username. So, I guess it would not be that difficult for someone to sign up under anyone's name if they knew your username on this site. Have a nice day and happy myLotting!!!

Could be a blessing in disguise. Wish I could get referrals like that. Have you ever posted your referral link anywhere in the past? Or even your sister in laws websites, pages etc? This could be what happened. I leave my referral link everywhere, even made my own myLot banner that is posted on some of my other web pages. If your ref is active I would take it as a blessing? Have you asked him how they discovered you?

I'm not sure how that would happen. I thought the only way a person could be your referral is if you invite them to be. I hope you find your answers to your questions because I don't know....Good Luck
