Roots or wings?

Which do you feel is the best gift that parents could give their children. Is it a very controlled, strict, orderly well brought up character or is it freedom to live their life their own way, the way they like and the way they want to? Is it the roots for a good life or the wings to be a free bird?

Well, speaking from personal experience, I truly believe in giving your children the freedom to learn who they are. This doesn't mean just sitting back and idly watching them, but rather being an active and supportive parent. This also involves leading by example. They may not always follow but at least they will always have what you consider to be a positive role model.
