How do you gauge success?

Some people would say that their success in life is gauged on how well they do at their job, or how much money they make. some would say it's determined by what sort of imprint they can leave behind on the world or what they can manage to leave behind for their children. Personally I believe that success in life is just being able to be happy with who you are and what you've done. If you're a billionaire but you had to alienate friends and family to get there and are now only surrounded by people trying to feed off your wealth are you truly successful? What things do you think make people successful?

I personally feel success should be based on the things you can control. I know this may sound off the wall but seriously. You can't control how much money you make, or who hires you and were you work. There are times you can't control happiness either. Say your loved one passes away or your wife leaves you then you are bond by the laws of life. Yet are you not successful because of your unhappiness? No not by no means. Successful people are naturally wealthier, smarter, and have good jobs. If you think about it all companies want to hire the one they feel will succeed at the job he/she is given. This does not make them successful but yes it is part of success.(You may ask why is that?) If they have not completed all their goals and dreams they are yet to be successful. I feel for every individual person success should be looked at in a different way. What are your plans for life? If you know what you want in life and do everything you can to get the things you want in life then you are successful. In achieving this success will come the money, jobs, happiness and at times fame. Just my opinion, Take Care
