Markand Waingankar, a well-known cricket commentator, has suggested that ranking system should be introduced in cricket. The system works on the principle of awarding points for performance in all the aspects of the game. The system based on statistics and cumulative points will not only motivate the players, they would also get to know the benchmark for getting selected for a state team, he argues. It will get rid of bias and nepotism which are rampant in Indian cricket selection process, Mr.Waingankar says.
I find his arguments highly valid. Moreover, the system has already been introduced in Australia.
Now, what do you think of this suggestion? Should ranking system be introduced in Indian cricket?
